I’m doing a very extensive restore project. I’m looking to swap a sunroof from a DA, onto an RS trim DA no sunroof). I have two questions.
Is the roof skeleton similar between the RS and LS chassis? If i change the roof skin and headliner, will the sunroof assembly simply bolt to the RS roof?
If i do end up needing to cut the entire roof off to make it work, where would be the best place to cut, in order to get it straight and fit correctly?
I’ve searched many sites to no avail. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.
i dont know how it would bolt up, but your best bet would be to change the whole roof if your going to attempt this. Remove the water run channel mouldings on the side of the roof panel and drill out the spot welds. and in the end it should come off as a whole unit. just becareful to remove the glue/foam from the roof supports so you dont warp it. it will be a bit time consuming but is possible.
Seems like a lot of work for something that will probably not tun out as well as you think it will. Just stay no sunroof, lighter and less to worry about.
wow!! I applaud you if you really commit to doing this; normally people hate the sunroofs especially in racing applications on DA’s since it takes away the structural rigidity of the chassis.

Its my daily driver. If this were a track car, I would keep it as an RS with no sunroof.
my rs has a sunroof. It was put in aftermarket by the previous owner. It’s not an electric one though, it just pops open. Pretty sure they just cut the roof open and installed it.
Well, my buddy sold the shell. But he sold it to a salvage yard owned by one of my cousins (he didn’t know). I’m picking up the roof today. Just updating. Once I start the swap itself I will document all steps…with pics. Stay tuned…
First you cut the roof at the pillers then you drill out all the spot welds you have to remove the front windshield an rear hatch then you put the sun roof skin on the rs body an reweld it
