Sunroof Rust

hey ppl…

ive got some pretty decent rust patches on my sunroof. they can be seen from the inside of the car and are noticeable from the outside in the form of small bumps on the seal

i was wondering if anyone has some tips or suggestions on how to remove it??

the rust is located on the panel closest to the front of the car. there aren’t any leaks (yet) but the rust is slowly eating through to the exterior rubber seal :frowning: and if not fixed soon could become quite an expensive job…

any info, tips, suggestions or quesitons would be appreciated

Cheers!

PS: i did a search but it didnt turn up anything relevant…

Daz, which bit is the rust on exactly? Is it on the car’s roof or the black sunroof bit?

If its on the roof then i’d say panelbeater is your only choice.

If its on the sunroof itself then you can change out the sunroof glass and border, only hassle is that prices for spare parts in Sydney are hectic.

its on the sunroof itself, the border bit

a mate of mine reckons it can be cut out and filled… i just dunno if it’ll b a temporary fix only…

Well, you should be able to cut the rust out and weld it up. If its too big a job then I’d say just swap it for a newer sunroof piece.

I’ve never seen rust on the sunroof itself. Weird.

i have the same problem and am just considering swapping in a whole new sunroof…but i figure i’ll just wait a bit more…

im a few years late since the original post haha but yeah ive got that problem too… my actual sunroof is rusting… ill change it when i have to i guess
