Suspension and Tire Revamp – opinions and/or suggestions

I am in to my 3rd G2 now and am looking in to a full suspension and tire upgrade/change. I have done a week or two of research on g2ic.com and other sites team-integra.net, vtec.net learning about spring rates, shocks type (adjustable/non-adjustable), prices, owner reviews, etc. I am a student with a tight budget so price is a big issue.

I bought my this G2 with the current setup already installed and am quite unhappy with the ride quality. On my previous G2’s (90LS , 93GS) I have had these setups and never really was satisfied.
• H&R sport on stock shocks
• H&R Race on stock shocks

I know that the stock shocks are likely the reason for the poor ride and unsatisfactory results.

My current setup that I ride every day is as follows:

• Maxspeed coilovers with about a 1.8 inch drop (I think, I didn’t set it myself the previous owner told me that it is about what it is. 2 finger gap front and back) by the way maxspeeds are supposedly 575lb/in from 450lb/in rear (holy crap that’s stiff)
• Stock shocks (blown I am sure)
• Upper front and rear strut bars- generic
• Stock 14” with 195/60/14
• Ingalls Camber kit Front
• Washer camber in the rear

Also I have 16” with worn out rubber (not on the car right now)

Based on other member reviews and my own research reading threads this is the setup that I feel will best meet my needs and desired results within my budget

• Nuespeed Sports
• Tokico Blues (HP)
• 205/45/16 Hankook H405
• keep both strut bars

I would like a ride that is not so low that I have to snake and such over every bump in the road. Also I am really sick of being jarred around every time I go over a manhole cover at 60km/h. I live in mission, B.C., (1 hour east of Vancouver) and also enjoy camping and bonfires so I occasionally go down a graded gravel road (nothing too crazy). Oh ya. I drive 120km round trip to work every day down highway 7. So the bottom line this car is a daily driver.

Here are the main questions I have
• Will this setup provide a fairly comfortable ride quality that I can cruise smoothly around in? (I know that it won’t be as soft as stock)
• What are some recommended camber and toe settings that will reduce the pull of the tires into the ruts in the road and reduce wandering on the highway?
• Or is it the strut bars that cause this pulling into the ruts (dips) it does it even now with stock tires.
• Am I going to be wowed with the results compared to the current and previous setups as far as ride quality and handing goes?
• What are the pros/cons of going to a 205/40/16 instead of 205/45/16?

Any other suggestions and comments are appreciated

Thanks g2ic.com members

answers to your questions…
Yes
Don’t know
This could be a number of things related to your steering, for the moment…just hold the wheel to better control the car.
Yes
The 45 series will have a bigger sidewall, which is better for your daily driver. also your overall wheel/tire size will stay as close as possible to stock.

Now for my comments to you, You’ve had a number of setups…but all with stock shocks. WHAT WERE U THINKIN! Do not go cheap this time and make sure you get the HP’s with that setup. It seems to me that you wanted to go for the looks only with springs, u’d be better off jus cutting the stock springs if you only want looks. If you want actual good handling the dampening factor of performance shocks are where its at. Picture it like this, springs take you down to the height you want, but shocks “control” that height. There is alot that stems from what dampers actually do but, thats the most basic way i could put it.

Dude if it’s got the maxspeed coils just keep those and match em with tokico illuminas. My buddy has that and it is way comfortable, not too stiff like you think. For the price of neuspeed sports ($150 US) and Tokico HP’s ($230 US) You can have the illuminas ($350 shipped all the time on ebay). The key in any choice you make is to get some good struts to match the spring rates of anything you use. With the illuminas you can fully adjust the stiffness of the ride and the coilovers allow the ride height adjustment. I think you would be happy with the Maxspeed/Illumina combo, IMO. Just my .02

Keep your camber kit and washers.
Buy my H&R sports for 100 bucks (-1.8" f/r, smoother ride than the Neuspeeds)
Buy some Tokico Illuminas (~400 usd anyway) or Tokico Blues if you can’t afford them (~250usd)
Set the alignment to as close to 0 toe and camber as possible.
Keep the strut bars if you want, they don’t really do anything in your case.

There, you’ll have a soft, but tight handling car.
