Hey I have barely enough money for a set of blues let alone a set of Skunk2 sports shocks. I’m wondering if a set of Skunk2 Sport Shocks would be decent paired with the Dropzone sleeves I got. Its daily driven and it is currently at OEM height b/c of winter. In spring (April-ish) til about October I’m going to be slamming it pretty low. I’m just looking for a shock/strut to last a year or so with a few months of OEM height and then about 6 months of a dumped height. I’m just wondering whats better for my application (ride quality is no huge issue), the Tokico Blues, the KYB GR 2’s, or the Skunk2 Sport Shocks?
If you wanna slam your car, get coilovers. Those shocks are gonna be a waste of your money. if you wanna slam your car, get something like the Skunk2 Pro S type 2. they have a bottom purge for you to adjust so that you have more shock travel. The more shock travel, the better. Either that or do some koni yellows with extended top hats.
Well I don’t have much of a choice right now except to buy just shocks b/c I need something asap since the strut rod is exposed past the “mounting plate” if that makes sense. I can post a pic tomorrow some time, but basically I’m in dire need for shocks and I’m just looking for ones that will last me some length of time, I’m breaking my do it once, do it right rule though
If you are looking to just get through the winter at stock level then I would just find some used stock shocks and save up over the winter and get a decent pair in the spring.
If you have already bought the shocks/struts then just go with what youhave. If you can, find someone who welds professionally and have them extend a set of OEM top hats. I had that done for mine and they worked just fine. be careful not to get too long on the top hat as it will hit the underside of your hood. I got 1/2" extension and that was plenty, 3/4" would be max. Those DZ’s are crap, your going to bounce and will get tired of them really fast. If you can find a used set of Omni Power sleeves or SK2’s. Of course I agree with everyone else, the next best step is Koni yellows with GC’s. Big money would be to get a set of coil overs with adjustable bottom. Eibach is one that I would stick with. D2’s I hear won’t last long. Teins have limitations on their basics.
da9runner from what ive gathered about the way you drive your car and the events you participate in… and i would think buddy club suspension is over 600, if it is i would suggest saving a little more and buying hands down the dopest suspension you ever rode on… amrengineering.com, call em up and youll see why their the business… i had 36way d2 suspension on my DA… it was koo, but amr is like 8 way adjustable and each one makes a huge difference… just thought id let u know… when i got dough to get suspension thats gonna be it for me… now if you just want to be low and stiff then any suspension will work… but if you want to be tight in the turns, then amr is for you…
id go with koni yellows and some lowering springs (for better ride than coil overs) koni yellows have adjustable spring perches so you can fine tune your springs. or ground control if you want coil overs. ebay coil overs are hard as fuck. tokicos blow, out
then if you want proper wheel alignment you need a camber kit front and rear.
keep in mind if you think your going to get coil overs so you can raise it up in the winter and lower it in the summer, thats 2 wheel alignments a year ($150^) might as well lower it a bit and got get it “slammed yo”
save your money until you can do it propely
I’m def thinking bout getting GC’s with Koni yellows now. I haven’t heard one bad thing about the combo and I may be able to get a set of slightly used ones for under 700 bones. I was reading up on them and GC uses Eibach springs with their “sleeves”. Also it seems like their “sleeves” aren’t useless pieces of sh^t like the DZs I have lol. And I’m thinking about getting at the same time a S2 pro camber kit in front and back b/c the area thats adjustable seems more beefier than the S2 Revo kit. Now would anyone suggest pressing out that ball joint in the S2 pro kit and replacing it with an adjustable ball joint? Or is that unnecessary?
I am looking at getting the skunk 2 pro coilovers myself. I don’t really want to lower my car though. It’s already low as it is. I wouldn’t mind going no more than 1 inch. Will these work or is it going to lower my car way more even if it is adjusted all the way?
