I’m putting a b16a1 into my 1990 integra. Everything is hooked up but it’s not turning over. I don’t think it’s getting any fuel. It is getting spark to each cylinder. The fuel makes it to the sending unit by the firewall but I don’t think the injectors are squirting. The car originally had a b18a in it and had a b17 swap done a while ago so the wiring for vtec was all done. We’re using the wiring harness that was used with the b17, which is the original b18 harness. I’m pretty sure the injectors that were used for the b17 were the original b18 ones. Should I be using the b16 injectors or the b18 injectors?? Any other reason why the injectors wouldn’t be squirting fuel??
So the car was converted from OBD0 to OBD1 when the b17 was put in and is now using a P61 ecu. Can I just take the injectors and the distributor from the b17 and put them on the b16 using the P61? Or will I have to get an OBD1 to OBD0 conversion harness and use the PW0 ECU and a resistor box?? :squint:
If the motor is not even turning over, then I would have to say that there is nothing wrong with your fuel system (that you can tell) at the moment. If the engine will not even turn over then it can’t even stutter to tell you that there is something wrong with the fuel system. I would look at the starting system first if it doesn’t turn over. After you get it to turn over, and it still doesn’t start then I would look at the fuel system.
it’d be nice to have a bit more detailed background info… don’t be afraid to be detailed. We can’t help unless given ALL the info.
Ok, so the car was converted to obd1. This means you have two options.
-
Stay obd1 (easiest option).
-use obd1 distributor
-use obd1 ecu (use the p61 since you already have it)
-don’t change any of the wiring… if it ran the b17a in obd1 form, it should run the b16a exactly the same way. -
Convert back to obd0
-remove obd0 to obd1 jumper harness (or convert wiring back to obd0… i’m not sure how the car was converted, so I can’t say how to “un” convert it).
-use obd0 distributor (one should have come with your b16a)
-use obd0 ecu (one should have come with your b16a)
In all situations you are going to use the original b18a engine wiring harness.
As for the injectors…
If you want to use the “obd1” injectors (which are saturated):
-use obd1 injector clips (these may already be on the harness if the b17a was running with saturated injectors)
-remove the injector resistor box, solder together the wires that went into it (this is connecting them all to a common ground (again, this may already have been done if the b17a was running saturated injectors).
If you want to use “obd0” injectors (which are peak-hold):
-use obd0 injector clips (these may or may not be on the engine harness already)
-use the injector resistor box (see your manual for exactly which wires go where)
Now, with all that said… this swap should be super easy. Assuming that the b17a ran before you did the swap:
-remove b17a
-take wiring harness off of b17a
-take wiring harness off of b16a
-put the harness that was on the b17a, onto the b16a
-put the dist that was on the b17a onto the b16a
-make sure all the sensors are wired up (may need to extend some wires)
-use the injectors that were on the b17a (the ones on the b16a might work…but you haven’t told us which it was using… so to make it simple, just use the ones from the b17a since you know they worked before)
-use the exhaust manifold and o2 sensor that was on the b17a
-use the p61 ecu thats already hooked up
Basically all you are doing is swapping the engine and tranny. There is no need to do any converting, rewiring…etc… as long as the engine ran before, you should be able to just hook the new engine up to all the same wiring and electronics and it should be fine.
Thanks for the help guys. I ended up just leaving it as OBD1. Used the P61 ecu with the injectors and distributor from the b17. It was running absolutely perfect for about 4hrs last friday. Then stalled and wouldn’t start. Towed it to the Honda dealership here and had them have a look at it. It started up no problem for the mechanic who was going to look at it. He let it run for an hour or so and then it stalled and wouldn’t start again. Now it looks like it may be the distributor or some wiring from the distributor to the ecu. I can’t really see it being a wiring issue as there was no problem like this with the b17 and it’s the same harness.
So my next question now would be which distributor can I use with the p61 ecu. Does it have to be a distributor from a 92-93 gsr or can it be anyone from a obd1 b16??
Thanks again for the help.
any obd1 b series vtec distributor will work fine
Perfect. Thanks for the help again!
