I have been reading around that others have swapped the mirror part of the housing from the usdm mirrors to the JDM ones so you can see out of them correctly when you install the power folding mirrors onto our USDM cars. I have noticed this normally pertains to the DC chassis cars but was hoping soemone has done this with a DA. Well i just bought a set of power folding mirrors and took the mirror out of them but the mounting pivoting part is a different size from the USDM ones.
Has anyone done this before or got any ideas as to what i can do with this?
Heres a pic of what i am looking at. (my paint skills suck but it would be the parts circled in red.)
The one on teh left is the JDM one and on the right USDM one. you can see how one mounting spot is larger than the other.
The passenger side mirror from a JDM car is now the driver side mirror on my USDM car. The mirrors are magnified differently. ever noticed the passenger side mirror is magnified differently than your driver side one when you go to look through it? Im not sure either but i think (which might be a seperate problem altogether) the mirrors might adjust differently as well. I’m hoping not but i think for example the driver side one might not go out as far in the housing as the passenger side one. This i will have to check when i finally get them mounted.
I didnt see it at first when i was messing with it. it was late last time. I started messing with them again last night and i can get a jewelers screwdriver in between the actual mirror and those black housings. Guess i just need to pick up a heat gun or use the womans blow dryer to seperate them.
the JDM one cracked taking it out. Since i won’t be using it anyway i wasnt worried about it.
Ok in order to fit the USDM mirrors into the JDM housings you will need to shave off these little nipples and the tab in the center of the housing all circled in red.
I got the mirrors to fit after cutting those down but now they are loose in the housing. Perfect space after test fitting them to get some 3m double sided tape in and securing them.
