dude quit whining like a little bitch, seriously. if you didnt want comments, aside from your build that will prob sink like the titanic w/in 10k miles (being generous) you shouldnt post pics of other items (like shoes, or toys, etc). man up and quit acting like a fucking nancy, thats the prob w/ a good majority of post 04 registries, first time someone says anything to you guys you turn into a whiny bitch. seriously.
Thanks for the encouraging words.
Seeing as its my thread, I can post pics of the virgin Mary if I want to.
I’ve been a member since 2001.
It wasnt the “first time someone says anything”- try around the 3rd time.
I know how these thread arguments can get out of hand, so I’ asking you
nicely to please drop it.
So you’re gonna start prepping the bay…are you going to fill in all the holes as well? Or leave them? A lot I’ve seen don’t seem to worry about filling them in, they just paint. Just wondering what you’re gonna do.
EDIT: good on ya for not wanting to make a mess of your hands either
Nah. Im not going to be shaving anything. Just trying to get the bay smooth and then shoot it. Thanks for following.:ohyeah:
Yeah, Thats exactly what I meant about the Woodruff Keys. My buddy and I were putting his head back together and we lost one of them in the mess of oil, parts and shit. We were stuck for like 3 days until finally the local shop found us some. Can’t wait to see more pics. I really want to see it all done.

Well that would suck. Haha. I was reminded of the keys right as I was pulling the gam gears off and saw them. I thought to myself, “Hmm. Craig, you better not lose those.” So I put them off to the side.
I still have a couple of things to remove from the engine bay (fuel filter, brake booster). Theres one bolt that connects the hardline fro the firewall to the filter that I cant get off for the life of me. Discouraged, I started looking at my wire harness instead.
Then I decided to take a break from the car and came in to play my bass (guitar). It’s my threapy. So no updates today. I cant work on the car today either because it’s Mother’s Day and my gf said that I would be shot on site if she caught me in the garage.
Damn!! This thread is bless-ed goodness. I can’t believe I’m just finding it today!
Here I am all patting myself on the back for simply removing and disassembling the head from MY B18A. And it took me forever to get the nuts up to do it even after all the research. If I had the extra $$, I’d pull the whole damn engine and follow along.
It’s lookin’ lovely synsei! You’re an inspiration to us engine noobs! Can’t wait to see the completed work!
ALLHAILG2, thanks man. Those are very kind words. You should also check out redlineintegra’s build here on G2 if you havent already. It’s good stuff. Again, thanks for the encouraging words and for checking out my build.
Thanks Vinnie! Dang, you quoted me before I could take the color down. Pwnt. LOL. Would you mind editing?
synsei, I’m curious…What all did you use to to clean up the cylinder head besides the Easy Off for the caked-on carbon? The inside looked pretty clean too(mine is shamefully varnished). It looks like you had the whole thing hot-tanked!
I figured I would bling mine too while I have it off the car. Not too sure about removing the valves and springs though.

I basically used a combination of Brake Kleen and oven cleaner. Then I used a brass bristled brush (try saying that 5 times in a row) and 3M pads. The oven cleaner leaves it kind of nasty, so have the brake cleaner to go behind it. I didnt remove the valvetrain, I just checked the valve lashing and cleaned up around everything. Then I painted the head. It was already really clean but I wanted it to match the block.
Ah yesss! I just happen to have a brand new, super-sized can of Brake Kleen that’s been waiting to be used! It’s been sittin in the garage for months. There was some kind of ridiculous sale at autozone so I bought a can for the hell of it - even though I didn’t have a use for it at the time. Those hypnotic sale signs…:stare:
Guess I’ll go get a can of Easy Off and a brass bristled brush and work that head over like Jenna J:rimshot: !

Actually, try to get the cheap oven cleaner that you get from like the Dollar Store or something. It works better than Easy Off. Hope it works out for you bro. Let me know how it turns out.
Wow, all I have to say is, I cant wait to see the results. I just found this thread yesterday and just finished reading through it. I am buying a recked 92’ teg tomorrow to fix my 90’ teg. I need a new engine since the teeth and woodruff key on the crank were ground down smooth and it also was chipped. I am planning to do the LS/VTEC to my new engine, but this thread makes me want to start from scratch and rebuild my old engine. If only I had the money…maybe…:).
Yea, I live in Cali, Lodi to be exact. Have you heard of it, or the song Stuck in Lodi written after Lodi? lol
-Jon
EDIT: btw, if I may ask, how much have you put into this build up to this point? I want to know if it is even anywhere near my reach, lol. thanx
Building my own engine has definitely been a great experience. As far as costs go, I’m somewhere between $1600 and $1900. It’s really not that bad if you buy things as you go.
Nope, never heard of Lodi. I’m from the San Fernando Valley though. Thanks for checking out my build. Best of luck to you.
Well I am glad I am still seeing some good work in Texas taking place. I am hoping to get my whole crew down to some austin meets here in the next few months before my baby boy gets here.
I am working on another 4dr soon. Gathering parts for the build. Hope to meet you sooner than later. Should you need some random parts let me know… I have about 4 shells that are for personal build projects but will share with someone like yourself.
My name is Lee…
NOW GET BACK TO BUILDING SON!!! It does not take that long to clean a bay up!!! HAHAHAHAHA
