Yeah we’ll have to meet up brodie. Sorry about the lack of updates. I burned myself out for a minute so I’ve been playing a lot of music. I did, however, order a new intake manifold today. Didnt feel like messing around with the OBD0 mess of a manifold that I have. I’ll get back on it soon. NIce meeting you Lee.
I decided to get off my black ass for a minute and get a little work done. I have 4 intake manifolds laying around.
1 1st gen B16
1 91 B18A
1 95 B18B
1 '99 B16(bare) that I just purchased from JDM Sh!t. At $30 I couldnt refuse. I still plan on getting an AEBS later though.
So I set out getting my IM situation squared away. I’ve done a lot of research for the actual engine build, but the little things like this are what I don’t really know much about. So I started checking for components that were interchangeable between the various manifolds. Most importantly, what would go onto the B16A2 that I’ll be using.
The newest addition to my IM collection
Cleaned it up and painted it
Stripping down the B18B’s IM
Grabbed the fuel rail and injectors from it.
After cleaning up the injectors I set the fuel rail in place.
I took the IACV from the old B16 IM, cleaned it up and installed in on the new manifold. Forgot to take a pic of that.
It started raining and I didnt feel like being in my mess of a garage so I went inside to drink beer.
I got a little bit of work done on the passenger side of the engine bay. I really hadnt planned to “shave” anything, but at a minimum I wanted the strut towers to be clean. I never noticed the little spot weld divets around the strut towers until I started scuffing that area. I didnt want them there so I used some body filler. I also built up the small indention towards the battery box area.
Heres the filler building up some minor damage
Halfway done
Goddamn spot welds that I never paid attention to
Some sand work
Body filler applied
I like to spray primer as I go so that I can see what Im working with
Not too shabby. Had to close up shop to eat some BBQ.
Haha. That ones an actual hole. Since I dont have access to a welder, it’ll remain there. It just got covered up while I was working on the other stuff. Thanks for peeping.
looking good. maybe once my turbo project settles down, and once mine is painted and new suspension n wheels. i can get a DD and do my engine bay like that wire tuck and all.
I’m not really tucking. I have too much respect for the guys that go all out to even call it a wire tuck per se. I’m just hiding the headlight harnesses and relocating the fuse box. It’ll look clean. Thanks for checking out my build.
Got some more work done today. I finished up the driver’s side of the engine bay. Same treatment on the strut towers. Here are the pics.
Next up: the firewall.
Also, did a little reading up on my resistor box. Since I’ll be using OBD1 injectors, the resisor box becomes obsolete. So I’ll delete the obsolete. Yeah I’m nice on the mic.
My mess of an engine harness
The tools- Solderer, rosin core solder, electrical tape
Threw some fresh electrical tape over the loom and called it a day.
Are you gonna wire tuck too? BTW- I like your attention to detail. Did your solder take a pooh on those wires??? HAHAHAHAA!!! nah man good job…
Haha. You got jokes! Lol. Yeah, my soldering job looks like hot ass on a summer day, but it’ll get the job done.
I’m only tucking the headlight harness. Once I upgrade my fuel rail, I’ll considering tucking the injector wires. AC and cruise control have been deleted. Thanks for checking out my build.
I’m envious of your build!! I’m learning so much through your thread so thanks! Can’t wait to see a video of your first start up… subtle hint
I learned from so many other threads that I’m just trying to pass some knowledge along (as I learn). I’m waiting on paint, then we should see startup shortly afterwards.
nice
Thank you sir.
hey synsei where did u get ur parts hot tanked? i have a set of wheels i need cleaned up and repainted. thanks
I all the machine work/ tanking was done at South Austin Machine Shop. You can give them a call at (512) 444-3656. Good luck with your wheel project.
Actually, try to get the cheap oven cleaner that you get from like the Dollar Store or something. It works better than Easy Off. Hope it works out for you bro. Let me know how it turns out.
Not as clean as yours but it’s MUCH better than it was before. I never hit it with the oven cleaner. I used 2 1/2 cans of brake cleaner before I grabbed a bottle of concentrated Simple Green and sprayed it down. I let it marinate for 10-15 minutes then attacked all that nasty varnish with the wire and nylon brushes. After about 30 minutes of scrubbing…I WD’d the valves and springs to prevent rust. I’ll clean out the intake and exhaust plenums later. Now I’m debating on wether I should get a valve job w/ port/polishing.
