Yeah, I am looking into getting one of these two exhausts, and it appears to suit what I am looking for just right… but can’t seem to find any reviews from Google, etc.
I’ve tried searching, and only came up with two thread results that do not contain information on someone owning one / experience with it.
From what I understand, it’s a new canister-style exhaust (Concept G) without the loudness of a regluar fart can. Piping- 60mm, Tip- 100mm. It’s marketed as being below 93db (legal limit) at WOT w/o using a silencer.
The Touring version has all the same specs, except that it is not a canister style design.
If I go out on a limb and buy one, I’ll post up my results here and there.
I just put mine and sounds great & when you are just cruisin’ it’s damn quiet but when you floor it that exhaust got a nice deep tone way different than the rs-r ex-mag:burnout:
i installed this on my buddy’s DA last week. The exhaust looks really good.
other info found at tanabe’s webiste: www.tanabe-usa.com
after loooking at Tanabe’s website, i learned that the system is made up of highest quality SUS304 Stainless.
As for fitment on a 4door, i dont think it will, since it fit perfectly on his 2door. The 4door has a longer wheelbase, so i dont believe it will fit.
The touring version is awesome. i want this for my DA and have been looking into it since i heard about it last month. Im pretty sure ill be less noticeable when driving past the popo…
The 4 door is not that hard to modify, an extension (have made these before with ease) and maybe bending a hanger or 2. I really wanted Tanabe USA to respond as I wanted to see what pricing he could give me/us.
However I appreciate your response, it gave me the info I needed. Thanks man!
Looking at the site you posted, they was $620 for this. Honestly, I would rather go with a custom bent exhaust, or the RSR-Exmag as it has been around awhile, and has numerous reviews. If they can give a discount on the touring however, I will consider it.
ya, I hope so. That was why I was waiting for Tanabe USA to respond, as he might beable to give us a better deal than whats listed on the site.
How loud compared to stock is the touring? Is it like the Exmag, where its as quiet as stock until you go WOT? Whats your impression, since you have seen/heard it on a car. I am willing to shell out the cash, but don’t want to have a bumblebee or fartcan sound coming out of my car.
Atleast your conversation is interrupted because your exhaust is supposed to sound that loud. Mine is starting to get loud (stock from 1990). I had to slow down the other day on the highway so my wife could tell me something. However some of that noise is wind noise and not engine/exhaust.
Nope, haven’t heard squat. Though I have moved away from fixing the exhaust for the moment. It doesn’t need to be fixed, just replaced before september (inspection time).
I have some GC’s and Koni’s in shipment to me right now, will be putting them on this weekend. :excite:
As for this exhaust, I wish tanabeusa would respond back to this thread, I would love to see what kind of deals they offer to us since they are a sponsor.
If they have not responded to this thread by the time I am ready for exhaust (~mid-August) I will have to buy it from somewhere else, or buy another brand (RSR Exmag is my current favorite) Or I will just do a custom exhaust, have a shop weld up something.
Ok, I just got mine in today, and it looks sweet. I paid $495 + shipping from Options Auto Salon.
The muffler appears to have a -slight- angle to it, rather than simply a straight shot out the rear of the car. Nowhere near an N1 angle, but at least not straight.
It also appears to come with an -optional- (?) extra support bracket to mount where the tow hook was in order to support the weight of the muffler. I dont know if other systems use this type of setup. All pictured below.
I’ll keep you guys posted about how it sounds on the teg. I also have experience with my Apex-I N1 on the car previously; and I will be directly comparing the two on the sound / tone. Performance won’t be a factor to compare because I’m putting a B18C in the car as well… I’ll be sure to post up results.
im pretty sure my buddy got it for that mch from options too.
post some clips Xirphoid! im sure it would help a lotta people out. my friend is too damn lazy./
Oh sorry, still busy working on getting car running… just finally put the exhaust on it a few days ago.
Anyways, with my first test drive with it on, the sound was not loud at all, but the muffler looks totally awesome on the G2 with the angle cut tip & angled muffler design. I don’t think I can get a clip besides using my cell phone; but I can come up with some pics on the car later. I can tell you that it’s not loud at all… It’s like night and day vs my previous N1 setup. There is hardly any in-cabin noise, but the ‘deep rumble’ can be heard at WOT from outside the car pretty well, especially hitting VTEC… I find it nowhere near obnoxious like some other cars around here. You won’t really hear it unless you stomp on the gas, so, you can safely drive this exhaust without much attention besides the good looks. Driving with my N1, it was soo loud, that starting the car may cause car alarms to go off… Oops… Must have been over 125 DB @ WOT (w/o vtec) … Couldn’t even talk in the car then…
FITMENT – besides the below statement, fitment was perfect. It bolted up like a dream. It took us a whole 10-15 minutes to install it… cat and all. Clearence should be a non-issue, because the piping and muffler hangs just right even with my 3" drop on the car. Unless you got like a 5" + drop, you should be fine.
TANABE / BUYERS – I had a SLIGHT fitment issue with bolting up the ‘optional’ bracket. The holes in the plate were like 1cm or less from lining up properly on the frame. It was not bolting up using conventional rachets, I needed to force it on the car using an impact gun in order to bolt it up… probably ruining part of the bolt in the process.
