so i DID some extensive searching and it sounds like my problem is the ignition module. just need some of you guys to confirm or tell me if it sounds like something different. here’s the deal:
so i’m driving to work yesterday and the teg just shut off. no sputter, no warning. at first i thought i blew the timing belt. pushed it up the road to work and checked the timing belt… it was fine. tried to start the car and it fired up and stayed running.(wierd, i thought) after work i drove to my next job… 15 miles with no problems. drove home after that job and about 30 miles down the road she died again. i coasted into a parking lot and sat for a few minutes. it cranked but would’nt turn over so i waited another minute then it fired up. got about a mile down the road and it died again. waited, cranked it, then it turned over. this happened 6 times in 5 miles. sound like ignition module inside the distributer or something else?? please let me know asap!!! no car and its memorial day weekend!!!
i had the same problem and it turned out being the distributor i changed it and no more problem.
main relay for me…i use to go in the freeway and it would die on me
you’ll have to test for ignition and fuel when it occurs. if you’re not getting one of the two, you’ll know which route to go.
should probably check codes first though
that deffinatly has faulty distributor writen all over it. as seen here there are so many essential components and sensors in there that it dosnt matter which one fails, they all lead to a major malfunction as in your case.
in my opinion, its worth replacing the whole distributor and not just the coil or ICM.
UPDATE- today i started the car right up with no problems. idled for 25 minutes without a problem. fuel pressure remained at 40. gonna pull the ICM and have it tested.
for me that was a warning that the iginion coil was dying.
my teg would turn off/shut down mid turn - but start right back up again…a few weeks later, it just died at a light, bad ignition coil
