Whats up peoples… Within the next month im going to FINALLY upgrade the suspension on my GS-R. We all know TEIN makes a great set-up, but recently i’ve been checking out Omni Power, from what i see… i like and its a little cheaper, BUT it’s still not TEIN. If anyone has either setup already…TEIN BASIC DAMPER or OMNI POWER FULL COILOVERS… tell me what you think or if you just have an opinion, i’ve put links to both so check em out… thanks
I would say Omni - if you don’t want adjustable damping I would think the omni would be a better choice. Unless you think you will have to rebuild them in the future.
I’ve had the TEIN basic dampers on my car (93 GS) for about six months now with about a 2 inch drop and no problems at all. I must say I’m very impressed with the way the car handles and still manages a comfortable ride. I have been in many lowered cars and I think I got the best of both worlds with this kit. The cornering became much more crisp and predictable, and I was able to enter and exit turns at a significantly higher speed. The car feels stiff, but it doesn’t bounce over uneven road. Now don’t get me wrong you do feel big bumps and potholes when you hit them, but their not followed by that loud bang or jerking around that other lowered cars make. I do understand that I gave up adjustability of the shock with this kit. For the extra money it costs for that it didn’t seem logical. Height control and comfort is all that mattered to me on my daily driver. I needed to use my stock strut mounts and a camber kit for proper installation. I paid 630 for them including shipping from pro street online during their 10% off sale with warranty. So that is basically my review, as for which is better I have no experience with omni so I can’t tell which is better.
I own the Tein SS [adjustable] and they’re just jdm bling, but they, along with the Basic SS, offer quite a comfortable ride, infact probably one of the better rides ive had on full coilovers… BUT performance wise, the SS and Basic BLOW. OMNIS are almost a near comparison to GCs and Koni Yellows, I still have yet to test them, but omnis are my second choice to gc/yellow combo.
Tein = very low rear spring rate, offering the tendency to understeer in VERY fast hard turns. But A++++ for daily drives.
Omnis = I still have yet to feel them. I’m sure someone can give us a detailed response.
todd if you would get your ass up here you could test my omnis.
overall im pretty happy with my omnis, for the price i say you cant beat them. first impression was they were really stiff but after they settled (2 days) the ride was really great. roads here are fairly wavy so i feel little ups and downs(nothing to cry about its more like feeling the road, hell my wife doesnt even notice them anymore when she rides in my car and she drives a lexus) but if im on a nice flat piece of land its smooth like butter and it stay planted on turns. :naughty: after driving them for a while now i think i want something stiffer (i have street version 10k front, 8k rear) either konis/GC or maybe a custom rated omni (12k front, 14k rear).
if you’re just looking for a daily driving setup then i’d go with the omnis. if you want something to autox do a lot of research and you will find that koni/gc is the setup you’ll be leaning towards because you’d want to be able to control dampening depending on the course.
