tein basic damper vs. omni power full coilovers

I am looking for good handling and a smooth ride, what is best?

if it were only that easy.
You need to sacrifice comfort for handling or sacrifice handling for comfort. If you aren’t planning on racing, then i’d go with the tein basics, but if you don’t mind a stiffer ride, go with the omni’s. I think the omni’s are cheaper anyways, no?

It’s like asking for a bag of hot ice cubes…you can’t really have both.

I just got a good deal on some tein ss’s. Look around, I would rather have but both the basic and the omni’s are good.

i’ve heard bad things about the basic coilovers by tien. but then again, the people who i talked to about it arent exactly professionals, and probably dont have the setup. i know tien is a great company, but i went with the omnipower coilovers. better bang for your buck. kinda rough ride, but handles excellent.

thanks for all your input!

I bought the omni’s about 6 months ago…and i love them. My car handles great, and the ride is not that bad considering i have the stiffest rate 12k/10k. My friend had the tien super streets on his ek, and he said he liked my set-up better . Although his was more comfortable, my set-up cost less, and handled better according to him, so i would recommend the omni’s. you could also wait, and find reviews on the new D2’s that came out. The owner of camp1320, told me only good things about them, so you could check them out. But he also personally has omni’s on his eg, so its a good set-up.

The tein ss’s can be adjusted to a soft ride, and also a hard ride. I dont know what your friend had them on, but they have 16 levels of dampning (sp?)

I know they are adjustable. That is why i stated that for comfort the tein set up is better. But even at full stiff, he liked how my car handled more than his. I mean its a personal preference, and what your goals are, this should be the thread starter’s deciding factor. I bought the omni’s because there were great reviews, i wanted my car to handle good, and i didn’t mind the stiff spring rates.

tein SS at full stiff is still soft. they have softer spring rates than omnis all around. i have omni streets (10k/8k) good comfortable ride for streets with just enough stiffness to hold up on a spirited dash on freeway on and offramps. i actually took my omnis on a mountain run last week with bald rear tires, they held up ok just a little soft in MY opinion, plus my front is really low so i bottomed out a few times.

for the price the omnis are a very good setup.

i think the omnis are awesome. i have the street version and i love the way they adjust height wise so you always have full shock travel. they are pretty stiff, but the way the shocks are vavled, they ride very comfortably. At first i was a little upset about how high the front was with the height adjusted all the way down but as a daily driver, all the way down is plenty low enough. the fronts all the way down still leaves a little more then a finger gap(thats with gsr hammers with 205/50’s). if anything, if you wanted it lower, you can still lower the spring by the perch, but you will lose shock travel by however much more you lower it by.

i dont understand why people would want it any lower than it can go. at the height you and i have it (all the way down, little over 1 finger gap) its already too low. a lot of people never understand suspension when it comes to the DA, our chassis and suspension components dont have as much clearance as DC’s. i already have 2 small dents on my shock towers because it is too low. plus lowering it more by lowering the spring perch is a bad idea, the omnis are already a short stroke coilover by nature, making the stroke even shorter would mean riding on bumpstops constantly hence destroying the coilover prematurely. sure it looks cool being super low but as far as functionality goes there isn’t any. i’d rather have a 2 finger gap all around so that i can do a spirited mountain run and not worry about my upper control arms being smashed into my shock towers or worse something breaking because there wasnt enough room for travel. my 2¢ :flame:

well like i said, At First i was a little upset about the height, but right now im almost all the way down(have about another 1/4 inch more i could go down) bit i’ve never bottomed out my front shocks/upper control arms and theres no way cali roads are worse then jersey/ny roads. i also have a camber kit too. not really sure how youd be bottomming out and getting dents in your shock towers… anyways, i’ll say it again… for a daily driver, all the way down with omnis is plenty low enough… which is why i raised my car up a tad bit

our roads aren’t as bad as jersey but there are some that are pretty bad. i used to live in jersey city so i know how bad your roads are out there and i’m amazed at how some of you guys can drive lowered cars out there

i got dents because i am all the way down, can’t thread anymore on the lower collars in the front, lol. yeah i’ll be raising it some soon so i got more travel in the near future hopefully. i just won’t go on anymore mountain runs till then :frowning:
