temp guage goes passed the red when brake is pressed

any clue where i should start to figure out this problem???

my headlights and dash lights are also super dim…any ideas

the gauge immediately jumps to H when you hit the brakes? Sounds like I’d check the grounding straps in your engine bay.

ok well this is just getting worse… now whenever i turn on the headlights the engine shuts off, if i turn on the turnsignals the brake light starts blinking, and if the lights are on the temp guage goes up to hot. as of right now the engine will not crank or do anything

what the hell??

sounds like a wire is crossed somewhere…my car wouldn’t start at 1 point because the power and ground to my amp were crossed somehow. then I disconnected the amp power cable…problem solved.

how long was it doing this after you got the b20 in? who did the wiring? did you change the ecu?

i did the whole swap and i didnt change any of the wiring…everything was just plug in…ecu is the original b/c i changed over everything to non-OBD

so you canged the distributor correct? I know that sounds stoopid I’m just tryin to think of anything. Usually if something like this happens to me I check my own handywork first as that is usually the cause of the prob. No dissrespect, i’m sure you know what I’m saying. good luck though man.

I’m surprised you aren’t blowing fuses… it sounds like there’s some shorting going on, so usually that kind of surge would blow a fuse or two…

But if I were you, I’d follow the wires from the temp sensor starting at the sensor itself (if you haven’t already done so), and make sure they’re in good shape and connected where they’re supposed to be, etc.

Then, try and find the wiring fo the brake lights (I’m sure you have a service manual that would show the wiring diagrams). And see if you can find a short anywhere there.

I HATE car wiring :dead: (just had to use that face)

You are using Pre-OBD wiring on a OBD2 motor? You don’t have all your sensors plugged in do you?

MY friend has 1996 Hatchback with 2000 B20Z, same sstuff happened to him, he has SOHC wiring harness…his tach jumps like crazy, his tach jumps when he signals left or right, same problems sounds like you are having, get your wiring harness converted over…and you will have no moer probs…

i wouldnt matter what OBD the wiring harness is b/c i swapped over the intake and exhaust manifolds…so all the wiring is just the same as the b18 was…

non of the fuses are blown that i can tell
