Just driving the teg around today, and I noticed the temp guage was reading slightly over half. Didn’t seem to register this high with the civic (took it for a drive about 10 mins after parking the teg) I could just be paranoid. Just wondering if that’s normal for a stock engine (92 gs), driving normally in about 80 degree weather.
mine typically stays just under half. We get some pretty warm weather here in southern california, so I would be surprised if your car would get hotter while running. It might be a broken thermostat, or bad wiring to the sensor.
Thermostats are pretty cheap and easy to replace. I’m not sure how often the sensors fail, but I’ve already replaced my thermostat on my 92 LS and its at only 160xxx.
Did it go back down to like right before the picture? I had a few bubbles one time in my system, and it went up but then right back down. As far as I nkow it should be sitting right before that water picture.
a little bit over half isn’t anything to really worry about. although at 80 degrees out it shouldn’t get that high. try cleaning any debri that has collected on the front of the radiator, use a garden sprayer that will produce a good amount of pressure and rinse the radiator from the inside of the engine bay this should blow everything back out the front of the radiator. also make sure your coolant is at the proper level and concentration. i would just drain the system and fill with the 50/50 predilluted coolant to make sure. while you have it drained you might as well replace the thermostat, it’s cheap and easy to do.
if it still runs a bit warm, i wouldn’t worry about it, as long as it doesn’t get more than say 2/3 of the way across the temp guage your ok to drive it around. if you still think there is something wrong, check the water pump, look for water seepage at the weep hole and listen for any squeeling while it is turning. these are also relatively cheap, they just suck to replace, because you have to remove the timing belt. if your gonna have the timing belt off, you should think about replacing it as well
