I recently bought a 91 DA, with a B18a1 engine, with a GSR tranny. The temperature gauge in the cluster is not working. The pervious owner said he didn’t have time to connect the wires. The gas, rpm and speed gauge work. I didn’t know if somebody could help me with a step by step process on how to take the dash out and reconnect the wires? Thank you so much!
The wire that is disconnected is likely in the engine bay not behind the cluster. If the wiring behind the cluster is messed up then you likely have a very serious rats nest of wiring on your hands and you may not know what you’re getting yourself into with this car. There’s a single wire “sending unit” on the side of the cylinder head (same side as the distributor). Do some google searches and you’ll find what you need. Basically you need to either connect, or replace your “Engine Coolant Temperature Sending Unit” (aka ECT Sending unit).
Here’s a pic, it’s not of your exact engine, but the sending unit (red arrow) looks exactly the same.
