how do i test the ignitor?
get a multimeter and check for voltage between the wires on the igniter and ground. too lazy to get the helms out and see which wire. there should be voltage on those wires when the ignition key is on.
well my chiltons tells me how to test the ignitor if it isnt working properly or at all. What i need to know is how to test how well it is working. i replaced my coil with a blaster 2 and my car stumbles at low rpm. so i assume the ignitor is going bad. but i would like to test how well it is functioning
you take a multimeter and check primary side the little brass screws on the igniter that have a + and - next to them i think its supposed to be between .7 and .9 ohms and then take the one from - and put it on the tower and this checks the secondary side i think its supposed to be between 10k and 14k ohms. i don’t have a manual in front of me so i’m not positive but i did the same thing a week ago and ended up putting a msd blaster ss coil and msd modded cap on, and it solved the prob. and then some . my car has mor power lower in the rpms and pulls hard till redline noe b4 i had a dead spot from 2k till almost 4k now its gone. makes the cams so much more bearable.
testing the igniter…
dude…i just had my igniter and coil tested at auto zone they test it for free…the coil you just put an ohmmeter in between point for the primary and secondary…and is suppost to read it…but the igniter is a little harder than that…take it there…dont know if grantauto does it…but for sure auto zone does…
