That one Executive Staffer you cannot stand most days

let’s hear about anyone else who has that 1 know it all MoFo Exec at the companyt that just knows everything in the world and could do your job better than you…

Ok so to rant about mine… This guy is the marketing VP at the software Developer I contract with as their all in 1 IT guru…

I swear to f&%#king god this guy drives me through the roof… It took all my professional will power to bite my lip and not punch him in the face right now… Guy is going on about how his VoIP call quality is total crap any time he downloads something from the net or streams a movie. I ask what his bandwidth is like and he tells me he has a basicl DSL line 6Mb down 768Kb up. I respond that there is part of his issue… he doesn’t have bandwidth or a proper connection to support a Hosted VoIP phone configured for High Definition Vice calling.

so he starts arguing with me about how he KNOWS how much bandwidth a VoIP hone uses and that the issue is QoS (which is what I had explained to him yesterday before providing him documentation on how to configure QoS on his home router to prioritize Voice traffic on the ports the phone uses) and that HE told me this… I mean this is the kinda guy that will steal your thunder take credit for your work then belittle you like you don’t know shit…

“But I have 6meg down but I have 6 meg down… that is plenty of bandwidth stop saying it is my bandwidth” blah blah and you only have 768K up in the mountains in Angels Camp, CA on a DSL line, DSL being notorious for dropping off based on distance from the hub… May I remind you Mr. Know it all fuckwad… that Home internet is not like Busineess T1 where you pay for a data connection AND a voice connection segregated into multiple SIP trunks… A home connection is in most cases a dedicated DATA LINE… YOU NEED TO PRIORITIZE VOICE TRAFFIC>>> his response… “isn’t that what I just told you?” Mine, “no that is what I told you YESTERDAY” at which point he abruptly walked off…

Whereas I do understand he has half an idea as to what he is talking about much of his knowledge and points of contention are based off of archaic technology… (OFC you must realized anyting more than 3-4 years ago in IT is archaic…) Yes it is correct that SOME VoIP only consumes 128k… hell others consume as little as 64k… ot all really depends on what voice codec you are using and whenther your voice utilization is throttled or not… but for christ sake don’t corner me in the break room to try and belittle my knowledge on these matters with only information you found to support your idiotic therories on how you are right and the guy you guys pay to manage this is wrong… even after the IT guy did a remote connection to your damn computer and showed you visibly how you upstream traffic was killiing your connection cause you only have 768k…

go back to marketing the company you douche and let me worry about my job… and quit bitching when your call quality drops off cause you are too petty to upgrade from DSL.

ok done ranting… I feel better now LOL:chill:

Does it have to be someone in a position above me? It seems silly to bitch about a person higher up in the company thinking that they know more than I do, as in most cases, that would be true.

My favorite is the Lieutenant who opens up an interruption during a briefing with “Well it’s been my experience…”

No. It hasn’t. You don’t have any. Shut the fuck up (sir).

I guess it could be anyone… my point was I got a marketing guy who knows how to run a IT department better than I do or my Network Admin does… he needs to go back to making Company logos and white papers haha…

I think we all have had one of those while in service… I remember a boot ensign that took over my engine room… and the Chief used to nail him all the time for comments like that.

The Marines I’ve been setting straight out here (went TDY from LNK for a few days, got out on a mission with 'em too to make sure they were squared away) actually impressed the hell outta me…Gunny AND the PLT Lieutenant both asked what they could do to make my job easier. Typical attitude I’ve gotten from that crowd in the past tended to be “oh great, the air force is here to think they’re better than us…everyone pretend to give a shit till he’s gone, guys.”

Nice to see a different attitude for once.

Oh and I got to watch an asshole forget where he’d put his pressure plate and take flight, in a manner of speaking. HILARIOUS.

A nurse with 0 years of hospital, retail, or mail order pharmacy experience is my direct supervisor. Yes 0 years. I’ve been working in a pharmacy, in some capacity since I was 16 years old. So for nearly 16 years I’ve dealt with everything from budgets to back orders and nothing the state can threaten me with remotely scares me any more. Being that this nurse hates her husband and I through no fault of my own, have a penis, I already have 1 strike against me. My day typically consists of her barking some outlandish order at me like “YOU have to find MORE GLEEMOX!” Gleemox in this case being a drug that has been on manufacturer backorder since the Bush Administration and I mean as in the first I was unlce Ronnie’s VP Bush. Then me reminding her that the drug is on backorder and was still on backorder when I called the supplier last week and the week before that and the week before that. Then she moves on to wanting me to do something impossible “I don’t like the way this website looks!” Ok. Well since I don’t work for that manufacturer and I’m not a web designer, there is a little I can do about that. To which the answer is “Oh. I THOUGHT you knew something about computers.” The best is when I’m asked to bend the laws of physics. The drug dispensing machine has a mechanism that is designed to dispense 1 prefilled syringe. She has decided that it should instead dispense 1 glass vial that weighs roughly 10x that of the syringe. She then jams the storage area with as many glass vials as she can fit and wonders why the machine keeps jamming during cases. I inform her that the machine is not designed to do what she is asking and her response is “Well you come up with another way to do this!” To which I pull out a detailed multistage plan that needs a rubber stamp from the owners. “I don’t like that idea” is all she can say.

The best is the budget though. When I arrived at this company almost 3 years ago I asked who the medication supplier was. The supplier the company I work for uses, is a lower end supplier and can’t get the best deals. I was then told that there was an alternate supplier. This supplier was a small network of retail stores several states away who get their drugs from a large drug wholesaler. I asked why are we essentially “meeting the man who met the man who met Andy Griffith” (if anyone picks up that reference I’ll shit). We should be buying from the large wholesaler and using their prices as frame of reference for what we will be willing to pay for drugs from the lower end supplier. Nurse No Experience didn;t like that idea and was “too busy” to fill out the required credit apps. Jump ahead to 2+ years later and a the new owners want to know why I am ordering product from someone who orders product from a wholesaler that I could have access to. Nurse No Experience suggests ordering directly from the wholesaler and OMG the company is saved

If I ever leave this place, I’ll seriously think before working for another woman supervisor. In every instance they all seem to suffer from C.U.N.T. Can’t Understand Normal Thinking.

from an IT colleague to another, this video always makes me laugh:

unfortunately i’m not too knowledgable abotu VoIP other than that it is definitely bandwidth dependent since it uses UDP. we only have one in my office and all i ever do with it is schedule cisco meet me meetings lol

i love the part where he deletes the message from the dude’s sent items haha -_- power of IT…

Junkman, I do not know how you can keep your cool that long. I once worked for a vietnamese lady of a furniture distributor. I was the receptionist, webmaster, graphic designer, and marketing director. All day, everyday, she sighs and complained. I left after 3 weeks. I could not stand her and I’m glad I left.

Dude… that was classic!!! hahahaha

Junkman, if you would document those events, it would go a long way to fixing those gripes.

Oh I’m an expert when it comes to documenting my work. I keep a notebook on me and all times. All senior management is female and when I’ve brought many of these issues up I’m met with “oh c’mon” or “thats not how I heard it happened.”. Its a very catty place to work sometimes and its alot easier to just not say anything and write it down for evaluation time. The company is in negotiation for another company to buy a controlling stake. My hope is that they remove many of the management positions that will be redundant. If not my direct supervisor has a child who will being attending college in 8 or so years. As soon as this happens I anticipate her divorcing her husband and quitting or moving onto to less stressful job. Light at the end of the tunnel.

man I applaud your high tolerance for bullshit Junkman…
