The hells going on, this can't be normal?

Ok, I Purchased my integra GS about 17 months ago. It had 159,000KM when purchased. Here is a list of repairs, tell me if this is normal??

  • Clutch 2 weeks after buying it
  • replaced 1 coil spring when purchased
  • both CV joints
  • Both Rear wheel bearings
  • Upper control arm
  • all rotors

Now, The alternator just went

Inner tie rods?? need replacing
sounds like CV joints are gone again
another coil spring??

This is costing me TONNES OF money
what should I do??

Are you getting things installed properly? Are you getting your bearings banged in or pressed in?
How can you damage an upper control arm? besides damaging the ball joint that sits in it.
Wheel bearings is expected at that mileage and our tegs.
Are you taking opinion from the same mechanic everytime?

most of the repairs
were done at honda
but the bearings and cv joints done by another mechanic

Sorry, car now has 213,000KM

Yes this is normal, because obviously you didn’t have the car properly and thoroughly checked over before buying. The CV boots, clutch, and rotors are ALL things that you should have detected significant wear on. Especially on a '91 with 160k KMs on it (probably safe to assume that it still had it’s original clutch, CV boots, and Rotors - which in my experience usually last 150-180k KMs at max). I almost had the same thing happen when I bought mine, but I took it to a reliable shop who told me the clutch, rotors, and CV boots were about to go… before I bought the car I made the guy replace all of those parts at Acura.

The bearings and CV joints wearing out AGAIN that quickly is NOT normal - find a new “mechanic”… I’d suggest someone who works almost exclusively on honda cars. Also, if you choose not to use honda or acura, make sure that the parts you are using are Honda… for example, your local shop’s CV boots are typically made of weak rubber, and won’t last worth shite. Go to the acura dealer and buy the parts, then take them to your local guy (although the labour rates probably aren’t that different).

Forgot to mention guy at sears said my rear rotors needed to be replaced. I just had them done last year as well.

Thanks
JAY

Thats nothing I have had my car for about a year. Check my list.

-VTEC didnt engage new ingintion wire $80
-Everything under the distributor $450
-New clutch SPEC stage 3 $700
-All four mounts $250
-All rotors warped, new rotors and brakes $100
-A$$hole neighbor lossens lugs, new drivers fender and paint $400
-Transmition is currently jacked, est $800 or more

Thats a total of $2780 or more.
Thats without towning costs. Hell if I didnt have to make all these repairs my car would almost be paid off.

-A$$hole neighbor lossens lugs, new drivers fender and paint $400

what??? for real?

Yup, my tire ended up in my wheel well and bending the fender to hell. Thats ok it only cost me a few hundered to fix. You would be amazed at what sugar can do. A dollar bag of sugar can cause an engine to be um how do I say this SH!T. I normaly dont mess with other peoples cars but he messed with my baby.

Add a windshield, woke up this morning and little chip I had totally split across the window. Really thinking about selling.

Geez man, sounds like you are cursed. My 92 GSR has 146,000 miles on it (235,000 km’s) and the only ‘major’ things I’ve replaced due to wear and tear are the radiator and the brakes. I’m still on the original shocks & springs! I’d do what you can to make it look pretty and sell it off…

heh, same thing happened here.

I would rather sell this car and buy a 1999 cougar or something
anything to get away from these repairs…

Man what’s happening to you guys sucks. I’ve had my 91 RS for 10 months now and so far all I’ve had to do is replace the battery. When I went in for my oil change a couple weeks ago Acura said my cv boots are cracking so I’m just going to wait for them to split and then get new axles. I had 70 500 kms on the car when I bought it and now 10 months later I have put exactly 10 000 more kms on it. I don’t drive much since I’m on a tight budget and I drive carefully, but I don’t drive like a granny…occassionally I’ll push my teg to the limits and try to perfect my driving skills in case I ever do go out and race. So basically what I’m saying is just drive a little more carefully and be gentle to the g2 teg…it is becoming an aging classic

Dude, say you’re joking about the Cougar… they’re SHITE. They look not-bad, but the build quality is garbage… you think you’ve got problems now, wait until you’ve owned a ford for a couple of years =)

Example:

At carpoint, 92 integras have an overall used-car rating of 8.5…not bad for something that is 10 years old…

The 99 cougar has an overall rating of 7.3… 6.6 on quality. 6.6 ain’t so good for a car that is only 2-3 years old…

I could also tell you a long nightmare story of a buddy of mine who bought one, but I don’t have time.

Not sure if you were serious or not, but stay away from those things.

haha actually was going to correct that and say a g3
i wouldint buy one of them

i have had my 90 ls since last september and since then i have done
clutch, timing belt, tires, roters, spark plugs , plug wires, destributer, brake pads, o2 sensor, fuel filter, exhaust, and there is more that i cant remeber
but is realy sucked becuase that was all money that i could have put in to performance mods
but o well stuff happens

why do you guys have so many problems with your tegs? is it cause of mileage or something?

Our cars are getting older. Repairs are part of the gig. The alternative is to pay twice as much for a new car that sucks.

Lets see… I’ve replaced:

  1. Tires
  2. Muffler
  3. Radiator
  4. Distributor
  5. AC condensor
  6. 2 cracked lights
  7. a stabalizer arm
  8. a billion little cosmetic things like trim pieces, etc…
  9. a couple of bearings

That’s a bunch of things, but it’s still only about 3 or 4 grand. Add that to the 7 grand (all amounts in Canadian dollars) I paid for the thing, and it’s still half the price of a new cavalier and at least 10 times the car.

You’ve got to love your Teg, or you’re right, it will feel like a money pit. I don’t regret spending a penny, though.

Cheers!
Mike

ya the cars are unique, its definetly a better feeling that driving around in a stationary cavalier that a million over people own.
another big problem Im having with the car is that its loud and squeeky as hell, on the highway the passenger window leaks in air like crazy. I have had both of the door panels off. I know some of the clips and stuff probably werent set back on properly due to me breaking them or something. What should I do
Thanks
