The say whatever thread

Hi.
As opposed to spring and fall snow?

I just googled “blackflies in Alaska” to see if you guys had a problem with them up there in the Summer. All the stuff I read said mosquitos are the real problem. Are they really that bad?
They’re big and plentiful, but some areas are worse than others. Valdez is probably on the lower end since it stays a little cooler in the summer. We’re heading to Denali in a week and they are pretty bad there.

Nothing big. We get ones that are big enough to feel maybe once a month or so, but they’re just barely noticable. Since I’ve been here we’ve probably had 2 that make you think “here we go” for a second, but they quickly went away. We are aware of the possibilities thanks to the Good Friday earthquake, however, and stay prepared.

I drove a friends '08 R32 (VW) last night. It’s really nice. I’ve never cared for veedub’s but it almost made me a convert. For its power and handling and all its neat toys, there just wasnt enough feedback for me. Fantastic daily driver though.

if it didn’t demand premium it’d be perfect for a DD.

My Fucking PS3 took a shit on me. Supposedly its the Blu-Ray Drive. Replacement ones can go from $40-$120 shitty shitty bang bang.

So how about that scion fr-s?

interview candidate yesterday was a home schooled , only child, who took an “alternative path” to a nursing career. She kept going back her “strong midwestern values” and “degrees in home economics and alternative medicine” before indicating that she would need to work a 4 day, 20 hour work week, in order to “give her brain enough rest”. Her salary requirements read like a list of terrorist demands ($120k a year, 5 weeks vacation, free medical/vision/dental…). How fast do you think I turned her resume into toilet paper after I didn’t offer her the job?

Why are you such a magnet for absurdity?

Ever been to New Jersey?

On a fun note, I’m catching up on the newest season (17, starts here end of august) of Top Gear. Rowan Atkinson in the reasonably-priced car.

I’m not even in HR or a hiring manager in any way shape or form. My superiors like to mix it up though and they’ve decided to let me and a handful of others interview select job applicants. Nice break from the day to day.

Did you meet with her in person? I think it would have been unprofessional to laugh straight in her face, but some obvious smirking was definitely called for.

in person. I was a stone faced killer and should have won the academy award for best actor. No laughing or smirking. Played it cool with lots of "Umm-hmm"s and "Yes yes I see"s

Best Show on the planet. So far…All of Season 17 is pretty damn good. Except the fact that BBC America cuts out a good portion of the show to fit time constraints.

Saw a Bugatti Veyron in person today, almost lost all bowel control.
