I was driving on the hwy earlier and a truck infront of me slammed on his brakes and i had to slam on mine. I was going about 65mph and when I slammed my brakes they locked up and went from 65 to 0 in about a second. When I let off the brake I heard a loud snap and it sounded like a bunch of metal of tumbling underneath my car. I pressed the gas and the rpms went up but the car didnt go anywhere. (car was in 5th this whole time) After I pulled over I put the car in 1st and let off the clutch without giving it any gas and it didn’t stall out. To me it seems like my clutch ripped apart or shattered when I hit my brakes so hard. The car starts and runs fine but wont drive. The shifter moves and will let me select any gear but wont go anywhere in any of them. The weather here has been below freezing for two days now and my car isnt used to that so i’m thinking that might have something to do with what caused this. I’m pretty sure it’s my clutch that is messed up and it needs to be replaced but I just wanted to get some feed back from you guys. Thanks
Check your axles?
^ x2 i agree with spikeymike cause from what it sounds you might have broken an axle
just went out and looked at them. its hard to see cause my car is so low but yea, the driver cv joint broke in half. I just replaced them a week ago and it already broke. I guess my tires stopping so suddenly cause too much torque on the axle and it broke. Thanks
another cause is cheap axles whcih most of them are these days…and the fact that ur car is so low it causes alot of stress on the cv joint which can cause it to pop out under heavy load
