those who cleared their tales

Ok, I am redoing my tails today, and this time I am cleaning up all that old glue. The glue in the housing is kinda hard to get out, did every who succesfully clear their tails remove that completely?

And also, I need a good recommendation on where to get silicone. I used Clear RTV Silicone Adhesive Seal and this stuff worked like crap. My tailights were a sinch to open again, and I noticed that the silicone barely sticks to the plastic. Does anyone recommend using hot glue? A quick resonse is much appreciated. I think that the teg tips needs to be updated. I have found that using a butter knife works great when removing the tailights and have other suggestions.

i tried some grease that i found at home depot called “Goof Off” or Goo Off". It comes in like a yellow metallic container. I took this stuff and put in on a dry blanketand just started rubbing the glue on the taillights and within 20 minutes, that glue was off

Try it…this stuff works…not too expensive either if your buyin the real small container

BE CAREFUL!!!

Goof-Off will EAT plastic. If you get any on the face of the tailights, they will be ruined!!!

Try to get all the glue off that you can. My friend and i chipped away at the glue for a good half an hour, and then put the silicone on. We didnt get all the glue off, so the lights arent completly secure, so be sure you can get all the glue off so the lights will fit back together when the silicone is applied. I used silicon that my friends dad had in his garage, but i have no idea what it was. I just remember it was in a white tube and was black silicone…

maybe “Goo Gone” would be best to use. I don’t think that eats plastic since it is safe on paint.

So removing all of the glue in housing is necessary in order to get this to fit right? Also, wouldn’t it be best to use clear silicone, or does this not hold well?

So which Silicone brand works well with plastics and where did you buy it? I appreciate all of your responses. I am sealing these suckers for good, and if they leak after I will smash them to peices! Just kidding.

i used this stuff called marine goo i think it works real good but it was a little expensive.

I just went to Home Depot and bought some clear Silicone sealant that you would use in the kitchen and bathroom stuff. I’ve seen it at Wal-Mart too. Worked good on mine.

Well I have a set of tails drying right now, I will let you guys now if these will be leak free. Also, those of you that have painted your tails, using the renewing 1 pieces teg tip can be applied to the tails in order to remove the red paint. I can’t even tell that it used to be painted.
