Threads on block stripped

Befor I changed my head gasket, I tried to torque my head to spec. But the bolts would keep spinning freely. I took the bolt out that was giving me the problem and found out that there was some material on the bolts from the block. This was preventing the bolts from tightning, they had nothing to grab on to. What can I do to fix it and how much trouble will it be. Please help me, I need to be cruising the Teg.

dont know if you should retap it yourself. probably should take it to a machine shop and have them do it. otherwise, you would need to drill out the old threads, then retap it slowly and carefully. use oil at all times.

the reason i would be worried is cuz the head gasket is very important and you wouldnt want a crooked thread and uneven torque across the head.

hi you need someone that has experience for this one guy you are looking at what is called a hellicoil repair any good auto part shop can fix you up with this one they will also be able to give you info on who can do this for you or you can go with a short block from the dealer ouch on cost though

Bring it to a machine shop and have them drill it, put a helicoil in and rethread back to the thread of the head studs. It’ll be about 100.00+ but it’s better than being stuck witha F&*K block. It should take a day to do it.

I talked to a mechanic and he said to put some lock tight on it. The instructions on the other page don’t say anything about it.

ok you can listen to a general mechanic but dude the guy that was talking in my name was my dad and he has beedn a mechanic at acura for 10 years and trust me he says that there is no way that lock tight will work if you trully striped it! Lock tight is like just a quick fix or something you do to get the car to the machioen shop and have it hellied! but hey if you wanna go with the lock tight go a head and kiss your block good bye…i mean yea that mechanic is right he knows his shiot!

Naw dude!! I meant to put lock tight on the heli coil now just the block or head it self. And the dude who mentioned this to me is also a Honda tech.
