Throttle Hesitation/Stuttering

Well, I got a gift card from Vatozone for Christmas.

I’m going to try and get new coil and igniter and run that for a while and see if that fixes the problem.

I’ll keep us posted.

yo i got the same prob as all of you do. but today i went out for a little just to go to the store, when i granny shifted form 2nd to 3rd i blew a big ass flame out the exhaust. so if any of you find out the problem…im ready to know what it is.

 You know what? I swear my Teggy does the exact same thing, except for passing the full flame.

It farts likes hell, big ass backfire. It also does it at times when I shift smoothly from 1st to 2nd. I don’t know about the 2nd to 3rd shift since my 3rd is gone.

We’ll find out man. Soon enough!

Man, I didn’t realize how big/common this problem was.

i can tell you exactly what is wrong. It is your ignition leads. I have had that problem befor

the ignition leads?? can you explain this to me.

points?

Hey ^^ you beat me to the punch.

What are these ignition leads?

i just seen i had a injector leak on the #2 cylinder plug. i just change all the injectors o rings and stopped the leak. could that have been the problem??

I understand this ^. But what do the injectors leaking have to do with the “ignition leads”? What are those?

Any updates?

My car seems to be doing this worse now.

I know that a new fuel filter didn’t fix it. Nor did installing new plug wires.

misfiring

My teg has the exact same problem, no power, sputtering etc up to 2700rpm (i’ve pinpointed the location of instant power surge). The power that comes after 2700 rpm is like the NOS boost sequences in Fast and Furious.

This only happens when the car has warmed up for 10 minutes, and then every 5 seconds or so whilst idling the rpm will drop then rise again.

I thought the problem was a bad/leaking head gasket and was ready to splurge on a new engine/recondition engine.

Only advantage is the car needs to be driven harder ( >3000rpm) to not get annoying.

I have the same problem with my car, it’s either the ignitor/coil or injectors, since this sputtering also happens when the car is running on empty, I bet with the fuel being as shitty as it is that crap get’s clogged and doesn’t allow flow. I’m still thinking ignitor. That’s my 2 cents, keep everyone updated.

Any updates?

Also, is this only happening to people who have B16a swaps? Just curious!

I have a B18a, i’ve read through this thread and i’m guessing my problem is the same as everyone elses, hopefully lol. Mine sounds more like a chattering or knocking but none the less studdering. I’m totally stumped. FIY my clutch is about to go out, and on it’s last leg. After driving the car for awhile as you guys know the studdering/knocking happens at low rpm in 4th & 5th gear. And only starts after drving the thing for awhile. My knocking gets worse then I have to back off of it. Sounds like it’s coming right from the tranny area, clutch/flywheel. And to me it sounds like it would be the clutch.

Just a thought, if it was because an ignitor/injectors wouldn’t the rpm be sporactic as well??? When the knocking starts i just put it in neutral and the knocking stops. Try reving in neutral and the damn thing is just fine.

I’m thinking this is a worn clutch, warped flywheel, pressure plate problem. But then again when I’m running low on gas I get the same knocking as i do now. WTF!!! No clue

I’m no mechanic by no means, so if any of this sounds off someone please correct me. L8ter fellas:P

I am pretty much having the same problem, but I don’t have a knocking sound.

I’m gonna take the ignitor off of the B18 tomorrow and put it on my B16a. Finally! LOL

I hope it fits!

could be either lean or rich misfire…

possibly rusty ground wire?

did anyone figure out what the problem is yet. i have that same problem i think it might be my feul press. reg. im gonna change it to stock and see what happens.

Okay, today I changed the resistor box (just hoping for a miracle, LOL), and I cleaned my spark plugs. NO CHANGE! It has to be something with the ecu or distributor, maybe or maybe not.

Does anyone with this problem have an OBD1 conversion? I am thinking that this OBD0 stuff has just had it.

Let’s keep the updates coming. This is a VERY good tread. It amazes me how common this problem is. LOL.
