I have a problem and want to see if anyone has had this problem and can help me solve it.
My car does this weird thing when I’m cruising. I can be at a steady 80 mph and try and give it gas to pick up, it has a small hesitation and then it jerks and goes :wtf: .
I press the gas and nothing happens, it’s like it has to “burp or fart” and then gets going. It does this when I first start going. I can be at a stand still and start moving and the car will hesitate then it will jerk and then go :wtf: .
This is kind of annoying and I can’t figure it out :hyper: . I have diagnosed and fixed problems on the car, but for the life of me, I can’t figure this out.
Anyone have any suggestions or fixes? PLEASE HELP!!!
Anymore suggestions? For the life of me I can’t figure this out. I have tried replacing the cap, rotor and wires and plugs. I cleaned the TB too and still stuck on stupid.
Now I am also having a problem with idling. When I come to a stop, the car bogs down and almost stalls out.
This was getting annoying so I messed with the screw on TB to try and make up for the bogging down. It helped, but now it does it again.
check every piece of vaccum hose on the engine. check for vaccum leaks, check for lose vaccum hose’s. listen to how the engine is running, it can tell alot about the health of the engine by how it run’s. how many miles are on the car? and was the motor ever rebuilt?
my b18 was doing this in my civic, i lined up the timing mark on the crank and found my cam timing was off. i still have a slight problem still but not as bad as it was. i think its mostly due to me forgetting to jump the connector and remove the iacv plug when i went to time my car. before the dist was all the way advanced. now its all the way retarded. but i think its cuz of the things i forgot to connect and disconnect when timing.
just double check things. every problem can be fixed, somehow.:read:
well i just did my ignition timing, after disconnecting the iacv and jumping the test connector, letting the car warm up… i put my distributor dead center and adjusted my idle and now its perfect timing. also a bolt on my header came off the bottom and the ecu started throwing a code 43. it didnt do that till the bolt came out… oh well.
The distription given in the first few sentences of the original post is exactly what is going on with my car. I have an Xsi swap with a PR3 ecu. I have replaced the cap (Honda), rotor (Honda), I tried plugwires also. It will run awesome at high rpm’s. I can’t keep a steady rpm level at cruising speed. I can put up with it, but it just gets annoying after a while. I just can’t stand the fact that my engine is missing and sputtering given the fact that the motor has roughly 35,000 miles on it.
The key description for the entire problem should revolve around the fact that it only does this while cruising, or while at constant, featherlight throttle loads.
I am starting to think that it is either the distributor or the ecu. I did have to change the tps sensor. I used the tps sensor from my b18 since I got a CEL regarding the tps sensor. I then set the tps at exactly .5V at closed throttle. Therefore, I don’t think that this is the problem, it could be, but I still don’t think so.
P.S.- I was just about to make a post regarding this same problem until I saw this thread. Thanks for starting this thread, because I am also having the same troubles.
my car has a similiar problem, it has good power getin on it, but with light throttle it doesnt pull smooth through the rpms… like a almost miss, or running out of gas… I have a rough idle only becuz of alt load, i think its dieing again…
Im ganna change my fuel filter and 02, not sure of what order, we will see what money permits… this weekend ill post results
Okay, after some thorough investigation and researching the web, I am starting to think that we are all having an ignitor problem. The ignitor/coil inside of the distributor, which can be replaced, may be crapping out on us.
You know what? That might actually be part of the problem.
During the summer, I drove my car for a good while, and it was HOT, if I turned it off, I could not get the mother-effer to start back up until the engine cooled off a bit.
I will look into that. Like you said, that might be it.
Okay, I replaced the fuel filter, and the problem still exists.
CLUES:
Well, 2 days ago, I installed an axle-back exhaust system from Flowmaster. When installing the kit, I noticed a fair amount of black soot build up in the exhaust tubing. This soot, from what it seemed, was fresh. This tells me that my engine, possibly, doesn’t have a fuel supply problem. And especially after replacing the fuel filter and not fixing the problem by doing so, I am convinced that the problem is ignition/electronics related.
Everyone, please keep me updated with your results. Thanks!
