Timing and Valve Adjustment

Hey guys, would it be best to get the Timing and Valve Adjustment done at the honda dealership or a garage that I go to that generally does great work.

Im askin this cause the garage I was going to goto said they needed the car overnight or for a long time so the engine is cold, as the honda dealership said it would take about an hour and a half. It DOES make sense that the engine needs to be a temp that is easy to worl on but the honda dealerships claim seems a bit far fetched - id do the work myself but it might be a little TOO advanced right now, I am a beginner soooo… yeah.

How long roughly should these procedures take? Also would it help my car with gas mileage, - 300 km…yes KM! KILOMETERS! - A tank AFTER a full tune up, no leaks, new o2 sensor and all that. Yes - I am also gonig to make them check the fpr as well.

Thanks guys, you make my integra a happy integra.

i would always suggest the dealership if you have the money. but a standard shop should be able to do a valve adjustment with no problem.

an hour and a half at the dealership sounds about right… this time includes cooling down the engine with a fan. it does take a little while to do the valve adjustment, unless not much is in need of adjustment.

overnight seems a little weird. they can just put a shop fan on top of the engine amd have it cool enough to do the adjustment in 30-45 minutes. the head only needs to get down to about 120 degrees. the reason is that doing the adjustment on a warm engine will not be accurate due to different heat expansion rates between the head, camshafts, valves, and rockers.

dealer is probably going to cost a lot of $ but i take it you already knew that. the shop saying they need it overnight yeah that is pretty weird, like the other guy is saying they can just set up a fan and help cool it a hell of a lot cooler.

either way i just had my timing done by a shop (don’t have a timing light of my own)

and i did my own valve adjustment

and all i can say is depending on how far off they are when you take it in you should be happy with the results  i know i am.
