timing belt lower gasket and cleaning question

so im changing the timing belt, water pump, tensioner, and some other things. my b20. When i got the lower cover off there was this 1/2 gasket thing. in the pic,its sitting on the ground. should i replace it? if so what is it called?

also, looking at the pic you will see the area dirty around the water pump and so on. to what extent would you clean it and call it a day? any special area to focus on.

Part# 4 is the seal.

you made that look easy. thx.

so the pics i took after i sprayed some engine cleaner on it. i will clean more monday and get that seal for assembely. around the crank is a little metal piece. is that important? there is also some grunge on the back side of the crank gear. im thinking this doesnt need to be spotless, but not really sure how much goo i should worry about.

the washer that goes on the backside of the crank pully? yes that is very important and needs to go back on. im not positive but i think that the bumped OUT part faces inwards.

You want the ‘washers’ to bow outward… like )( that. If you have them bowing inward () they will tear up your timing belt in seconds.

autozone couldnt even get the gasket but they found it with pics. do you think reusing the old one with high temp silicone would be fine?

You shouldn’t have to silicon anything… the gasket fits in the groove of the timing belt cover, and the pressure of the bolts on the cover keeps the gasket in place.

If you want a new one just get it from Honda.
