How we doing fellas…1st time making a thread on the forum…so be easy on me…:stfu:
Either way…buddy has a timing belt and waterpump he was going to use for his b18c engine in his EG that are oem in the plastic still…
well now he wants out the car and never did the work…so the question is if the timing belt and water pump would work for my b18a1 out a 93…dont need them but if I could get a deal I figured they might be worth picking up…
thoughts would be great on this…as all I have read is that yes…this will work as long as you have both…you cant have one without the other…
Can anyone confirm this?
you can change your water pump without changing the timing belt and vice versa but the thing is that in order to change the water pump you have to take off the timing belt. so its one of those things where you mite as well change it while your in there.
but as far as using a b18c water pump and belt on a ls i have no idea. im not really sure if it would work because theyre different motors but theyre both b series so i have no idea…
run the part numbers… see if they match or get an ls water pump and compare them…
is the b18c a vtec? it is a 22T water pump with a slightly longer timing belt than the ls. the ls has a smaller pump drive gear so it spins faster than the gsr… only bad if you do alot of extreme high reving. does the water pump have a 22T marked on the drive gear? for normal operation, you would want to stay with the ls and not use the bigger geared pump. using it creates the possibilities of running your motor on the warm side. by no means will you over heat or anything and you should be fine if you want to use the 22t and gsr timing belt. the most reliable thing is use a normal ls water pump. you know what would work even better? you could sell/trade them with me and i would be super happy. i have a newer ls timing belt and water pump, maybe 5000 miles that i would trade you. you would have what you need, and i would have what i need.
all besries water pump are the same…b16,b18,b20…and they are interchangable…for the timing belts…short block Bseries (b16a) uses 124 teeth and long block Bseries (b16b,b18abcGSR,b20) uses 126 teeth…hope thses info can help…
False.
Ls belt matches LS pump.
Gsr/B16/Type-r pumps have 22T stamped on the gear, these flow better at higher RPM.
After '96 the B20/GSR/B16/ITR (NOT the LS) pumps are all the same.
If you use an LS pump, use an LS belt.
If you use a VTEC (22T) pump, use a VTEC belt.
B16 belts are shorter than LS/GSR/B20/ITRs due to deck height.
ok thank you very much for the correction…
but im pertaning only for the Vtec series…because in the philipines…we seldome used LS block…
wow, thanks guys…awsome responses on here…thanks a bunch guys…
To follow up…this engine is staying “stock” being that this is the first time I am tackling a Honda myself…but the car is being set up for a auto-x/track day purpose in mind…(not to get into too much detail).
Yes, the B18c is VTEC…and its for sale as well…haha
Either way here are some pics of the parts in question…just to throw some color on this thread…not sure if this helps at all…
Oh yea…if ur from CT/NY…the engine and the car it came in is being parted out by a friend of mine…
so are you going to sell/trade the water pump with me? we be good friends for sure, lol.
