timing belt?

hey whats up everyone… i have a quick question… my dad told me (whos notorious for lying) that if my timing belt breaks when im driving that my whole engine would be wrecked… is this true???

if so im gonna go get a new timing belt because i dont know how long the one i have has been on there…
also he told me that timing belts break real easy on integras…

thanks

damn acuras are fast for a 4 banger.
anyone ever drive a 4 banger mustang its a joke compared to tegs…

i think theres a lot of post for this already. if the timming belt breaks. u can have bent valves. that can cause damage to the engine. specially if it snaps at high rpms/speed. while your changing that u should change the water pump too.

yes have it done if you dont know when it was done last. keep up the 80k mile or 5year schedule. and ya do the water pump while theyre back there. another 35 or so- no extra labor.

Your dad is telling you the truth on this one. If your timing belt goes you can lose your engine from it. There is a chance that your pistons and valves will collide causing serious damage to the head and/or block.

You want to change your timing belt every 75k miles max. Some people will tell you up to 90k, but that could be a sketchy gamble…
It is also a good idea to change your water pump and timing belt tensioner at the same time since those two things do have a tendency to go bad around the same time as a timing belt.

He is wrong in one sense though. The timing belt is not easy to break on an integra, or any honda/acura for that matter. As long as you take care of your car you dont have much to worry about. Keep up with the maintenance schedule and treat it good and it will be good to you too.

And yes, mustangs are jokes compared to integra’s.
