TIMING....confused with red & white lines

I tried to adjust the timing like it said in the teg tips.
I’m confused with the lines.
I tried to line up the red line to the marker but the dist. won’t turn anymore.

I had the timing gun saying 18.
At 18 the white line is at the marker &
at ZERO the red line is at the marker.

Is this correct???
The mechanic friend I borrowed the gun from said that’s how it should be.

From what I understand in the teg tips though, the red line should be at the marker while the timing light is at 18.

When I turned the dist. till it can’t turn anymore, the red lines up with the marker & the timing light/gun says 7.

Does anybody know how it actually is?

The car runs fine that’s why I don’t know if it’s right or wrong.

Use the white line.
thatz what the manual says.

I guess it is correct?
When the white line is lined up with the marker & the timing light says 18?
Then when you set the timing light to zero the red line is at the marker.

I believe the white line is 18 and the red line is 16. Do it on the white line.
