timming marks?

ok I replace the timming belt on my nephews car becuz it did not pass smog the timming belt was off one tooth and what the instructions said 16 degrees + or - 2 at the red mark…

the smog guy wont pass the car he says its apost to be at the white mark…

were is it a post to be.

white mark is tdc, aka 0* of timing

get a $20 haynes manual from autozone, take it in and show him.

or google it and print a page out, i couldnt find it on autozone.com but i only searched for a minute

tell him you want the test for free also for wasting your time :werd:

I have alldata I printed up what it said and show it to hem and he pull out his book. red is 0 and is 16 white…

he show have to it to my smog guy he makes your car pass.

What i dont understand why do we need to set the white at 16 degrees.

when all you relay need you can buy any old cheep light and set the red a 0… why do i need even have to worry about the white.

well if you do adjust the timing, theres a hole on the camshaft that aligns with the cam tower nearest to the cam sprocket, align it and put a 5mm punch, it holds it perfectly, all you then worry about is the bottom half.
