Going to look at a local cable gsr tranny for sale on friday.
Guy claims perfect gsr cable tranny, no grinds, no popouts, no cracks in casing or bellhousing. He said it was pulled at 100,000mi for swap. He isnt sure if its ever been opened before but says while in his ownership its never been touched. $300 firm.
I know you cant always believe what people say but thats the info i got from him.
Im bringing a friend with me to check it out. ANY TIPS ON WhAT TO LOOK FOR AND ASK ?
Ive researched the differences in regards to the tranny codes… ys1 vs s1 vs y1 etc…
Im a motor/bodywork guy, not a tranny guy. If i decide to purchase it ill be taking it to another friends tranny shop to be diagnosed & cleaned before i swap it into my da.
shit i wish i could explain it but i just can’t haha, unless i had one in front of me…im sure if u google how to find honda gear ratios something will show up…
There is no way to distinguish which type of ys1 it is without opening the case. If you’re unsure of whether to trust the guy or not, make sure you open it up and count the teeth. If he knows it is actually a gsr ys1 and you have cash in hand I don’t see why he wouldn’t let you. If he won’t let you, it’s probably an ls.
seller1: tomorrow said i could open it up and is selling me what he claims is a perfect condition gsr cable tranny recently pulled with 100,000mi for $300
seller 2: just offered me a gsr cable tranny out of a 92-93 teggy for $250 with unknown miles, its already been opened & is currently open. says theres no damage & it was opened when he bought it to check if it was a real ys1…also has another gsr for parts in case i need anything.
thoughts on this guys ? which one to checkout first? already have plans with seller 1 and i told seller 2 that id tell him later on.
Was super dirty and gunky, guy claimed it had 140000 miles on it, and it was pulled 2months ago so bits just been sitting in a garage for a while.
all the gears had all their teeth with no chips or cracks
Selector ring looked pretty smooth, had some damage from age but not that infamous jagged tooth look
Selector hub looked good as well
Magnetic filter had a bunch of gunk on it but not much metal shavings which is good
For how old the tranny is it looked mint
Was missing speed sensor cable but i can swap the one from my LS on it
Gonna give it a good clean & order a new clutch/lightweight flywheel then ill swap it in!!!
Hasnt been resealed yet. I wrapped it in plastic & will clean it later this week & rewrap it. Wont be dropped into car until early march so we’ll see what i decide to do with it.
