Lets say you buy a competition radial in 205/50-15 size. And you have Si wheels on the car. They are like 5 inches wide i believe. What would the advantages/disadvantages to getting a wider wheel such as 15x7 Volk racing? If you keep the same exact tires on there, what happens?
i already posted this question in a thread heavily populated with auto-x guys. i dont want to change the subject so i posted a new thread here.
If you keep the exact same tires, nothing will happen. You will still have just as much tread hitting the ground. Simple as that. Just because you increase the size of the rim, doesnt mean that it will increase the size of the tire. If you are going with a wider wheel, get a wider tire.
You need to look at sizes for the tires as well. I would imagine the SI wheels are 15x6 and not 15x5. There is a optimal size for the tire. I have 205/50 azenis’ on 15x7 wheels and they work fine. They fit a lot better than when I had 205/50’s on my GSR wheels. For drag purposes you might as well get a 225/50 with a wider rim.
a stock teg with factory size tires come 195x60R14
if you put a 15 inch wheel on the car, but want to keep the same tire size, you would put a 205x50R15…it would be the exact same size just a little wider
