I was thinking of a stereo setup in my newly acquired GSR( keeping in mind this car had been broken into before) and realized there are rca jacks on the back of amps that run to the head unit it got me thinking what is stopping me from instead of having a head unit replacing it with a hidden iPod?!!! nothing so I wired up a stock stereo and installed a fairly priced amp and wired my speakers to the amp it was very simple and fairly cheap
so bottom line if you have an ipod laying around somewhere buy an amp and save yourself the trouble and cash of having your head unit stolen if they break in all they find is the stock radio while your iPod is either on you or in your Glove box locked.
lemme know if anyone wants a tutorial with pics.:read:
this is where i got mine IPOD DOCK
Yea man, all you need is auxilary into any headunit and you can run whatever you like. I run my turntables out of the back of my car in through the aux in the summer time, pop the hatch and spin at the beach and stuff. Good times.
Edit Actually…now that i read your post again…I’m still not quite sure what you’re doing lol. Running the ipod, direct to the amp? Is that the amp for your speakers or the sub? How does it run to…yea, confused lol
running the ipod from an aftermarket amp so that way you dont need your head unit there are rca’s that are on the back of amps that you are supposed to connect to your head unit so instead of connecting them to a head unit you connect it to your ipod
and the amp is for your speakers and your subs if you have a 2channel amp
Gotcha. Duh, that makes sense. Sorry. Cool Good stuff.
Or you can just get an FM Transmitter from DLO and play through factory head unit and speakers without having to hook up an amp with the benefit of being able to charge your iPod at the same time.

connecting via an fm transmitter is not the same as a wired connection. i’m under the assumption that the thread starter wants good/ amped sound without a headunt.
My assumption was that he wanted to keep a stock head unit and not go aftermarket to avoid car being broken into.
Eh, either way will work depending on what people prefer.
yeah the fm transmitter is terrible quality. and it is alot more bang for the buck system wise I dk i thought it was a good idea
My FM transmitter plays just fine. Clear and loud.
I’ve heard FM transmitters and they sound crappy to me, maybe I’m just used to higher quality of sound
Mounting straps (yes more then one) are the answer. If you properly install your stereo in the first place it is typically more work then the average car hopper is going to mess with.
sure mounting straps work but still if you walk by a car with a stock radio are you really gonna spend the time prying in to the car or are you just gonna go look for a pioneer 7" inch fold out stereo?
Yea, but a stock stereo doesn’t have 16 volt balanced pre-outs, digital 10 band parametric equalizer with full time alignment, or digital inputs. If your looking for a decent setup there are plenty of stock honda radios that will work well, so I would totally agree on that for a simple setup.
I just noticed you’re from Kingwood. Are you going to the da-ef meet in june?
HELLS yeah where and when is the meet id love to check out some fellow honda tuners
CALLING OUT ALL EF’S AND DA’S TO AN ALL DAY CAR MEET

So where does the remote turn on to power the amp up come from if not a head unit? I’ve never seen an ipod dock meant for a car but do they come with those 3 wires ([+] wire, [-] wire, remote turn on) that all modern amps use to power on and work?
The only problem with doing this is that you’ve got to buy an Apple product.
:vomit:
haha at apple… As far as the remote you could just use key on accessory or 1st ignition.
