To buy or not to buy?

I found an Integra 1990 GS with 185,000 miles on it,
I’d like to know if it would be a smart choice to get it and then rebuild the engine and start putting performance stuff on it
I need your opinion 'cause this might be the first Integra that I’ll get.
Thanks.

you really didn’t give us enough info. If you’re planning on rebuilding the engine (which i think is a good idea) then definitely look for a high mileage car that is in otherwise great condition, and hopefully has had all the scheduled maintenance.

you may also want to consider swapping in a different engine instead of rebuilding the stock motor. rebuilds are pretty expensive, especially if you want to add performance parts. and often it’d be more cost effective in the long run as far as performance goes to save a little more money and rebuild a vtec motor… i suggest you do a lot of research before you actually commit to something.

also, honda engines are very good engines, they last for a long time. so 180k really isn’t all that much. I’ve got over 190k on my engine right not, and it runs damn good — not quite something i’d want to start modding because at its old age its not really a performance motor anymore, but it runs perfectly.

:wrong:

Well, the transmission is ok so the clutch , and in first shift I got 35mph in red line, there is some leaking from the valve cover gasket(need to be replaced), but the engine feels steady and strong, and the compression is ok.
My questions are: If I continue running the car in the way it is, What is gonna be totally worn out in a short period of time? Is there a test that I could do to make sure that this car is going to be ok?
I hope this will help you more, thanks for the feedback.

where in utah are you?? you could do leakdown tests and compression tests. look in teg tips or take it to a honda/acura dealership. if your in the salt lake valley, go up to jody wilkinson acura, they have been very good to me since i moved here this summer.

shoot me an email: jmaffu@msn.com too bad it wasn’t my car you are looking at. oh well.
