I’m getting my one pcs next week so I’m getting ready for the install. My experience = 0. My inherent talent/skill = 0. Needless to say I will be relying on you guys/gals along the way.
My first question is whether or not I should solder the connections. My only experience with soldering is watching my friend mod my playstation. I didn’t look too hard… What are the pros cons of soldering vs. crimping? Can you use a small soldering iron or do you need an actual soldering gun? Any hints, advice, opinions, and replies are greatly appreciated.
If u plan to cut the entire 9004 harness off, always solder and then E-tape it up, crimping is just not secure compared to soldering, u run the risk of having the connection fall loose. Or u can splice into the harness and install the H4H harness at the same time so u can convert back and forth, Id go with that method if i could do it again…remember not to severe teh wire completely, just enough to get the wire exposed and rewire. thats what i did too. turned out perfect. the only thing was that my jdm harness was too small (wires) :argh: so i went to murray’s and bought some $2 h4 harness’, and came out excellent:up:
for those of you who hate to splice into the stock wiring…here’s a very simple idea you can do to avoid splicing. on the stock connector (stock 9004 plug) where the electrical contacts are, there are these little plastic tabs holding them down so that you cant pull the wires out. get a small paper clip or something small to poke the tabs up and pull on the corresponding wire…it should come out with ease if the tabs are pushed up correctly. once the wire comes out, connect the end with the corresponding color coded wires from the 1pcs wiring harness. use plenty of electrical tape to shield the connection to prevent any chance of short circuits. repeat with the other two wires and the other side. same thing applies with the stock fog connectors too. if you ever need to go back to the stock lights, just plug the wires into it’s correct location on the 9004 plug and that’s it. use male/female connectors just in case you ever have to switch over back to original lights.
do that. thats what i did also. just make sure you crimp the wire in the medal good. I had a problem when i didn’t get enough wire crimped in… gave me a dim light.
