Well, just did my first Toda A Cam install on a 98 ITR for Darren’s friend Kyle. It went pretty smooth and I was pretty impressed with how hard the As made his car pull. Enjoy the cams Kyle. Here’s a link to all the pictures during the install. They are in order.
SSSWWEEEEETT!.. wish i had vtec. dang it…
:::applause::::
Dan is just proving his name (G2Guru) left and right. Even though a 98 ITR isn’t a G2…
There’s no break in period for cams? You can slap them on and just take 'em to redline?
-Steve
Very organized and professional…LOVE IT!!!
Good lookin out…
GREAT work
Once again Dan your step by step methods amaze me. One day I hope to follow in your ways, but untill I get the money, I can just watch and learn.
Well, with Todas you have to polish the cam jounals with 1000 grit sandpaper. This is done to “break in” the cams. You will obviously want to let it idle for at least 10 minutes before getting on it. And since you have to wait for the car to warm up to adjust the timing anyway, that’s easy.
Yeah, I know it’s an ITR, but a cam install on a VTEC car is a cam install. They are all the same. That guy Kyle had a SWEET Mugen Intake on his car. VERY NICE.
This is the first cam install I made myself take pictures step by step. Every other one I would forget to take pictures. hehehe.
That was fun hanging out with you guys yesterday putting the cams in. Too bad you didn’t take a picture of Tim’s car shooting flames out the tailpipe
Very very nice, Dan. Those gears just look soooo good when they are all polished up like that. Is that Darren, as in Darren from Washington??

Pictures take forever to load but very good. If I can afford crower 401T’s I may be doing that mod myself. There too expensive right now though.
Dan that is AWESOME. ARCHIVETHIS
one of the most systematic install guides i’ve seen… i think even I could do it using these pics … hehe
this should be pretty much standard for any AM Cam install in a VTEC, right?
thanks a bunch bro.
does the heineken help break in the cams too?
**hopefully we didn’t have too many heines before we went out and tested the new cams.
Actually, the beer is a great help… . But seriously, no…we only had a couple and then we stopped drinking.
We actually put the beer in the picture on purpose…thought it would add some humor.
Very nice, this is the kind of stuff I need to see. Extremely helpful.

heheh dan…s’all good, i did the same with my pics of the b16a tear-down…threw a pic in there with a bottle of smirnoff ice sitting perched atop my cylinder head as we removed the valvetrain.
and i knew you’d be a good boy and not drink very many.

Yeah, Dan and I learned that lesson when we installed my MSD system. We got half of it installed then went to the bar and got trashed. We went back to his house afterwards to finish and when we got done we turned the key and “click”. That was about the last thing I wanted to hear.
After another hour of Dan sitting on the floor and me, in a drunken stupor, testing things and trying to figure it out we gave up… That was a little after 4:00am.
I woke up early the next morning (believe it or not) and figured out what the problem was. Two of the wires got mixed up and needed to be flipped around. I started it right up and I could tell Dan was VERY happy he didnt have to work on that anymore, hehehe.
He came down from his room and was like “Cool, you figured it out!!”
Ahhhhh, the memories…

Hope you guys had fun chuckling over my phantom spoiler that was never sent…
