Too much oil harmful??

Just curious. I was very low on oil a few days ago (my car burns it, as do all older Honda engines – 285,000 KM). Anyhow, I had one of those huge 5 liter jugs of Castrol 5w30, so I started pouring it in slowly. Well, once I THOUGHT I had put just enough in, I stopped, checked the oil level, and it was VERY high. Like 3/4" above the top hole marker of the dipstick?
Can this be harmful to the engine??, or since it’s going to disappear within a month or two, should I leave it in and forget about it?

Any help is appreciated.

very bad for your engine, catalytic, and sensors. your car will run like crap, too, and could cause possible engine damage. get it syphoned/drained out and keep it between the two marks on the oil dipstick.

you can blow your crankshaft seal out. better off draining a little bit out jus to be on the safe side. unless you feel like replacing a crankshaft seal (have to remove the timing belt and crankshaft sprocket to get to the seal).:stuck_out_tongue:

dont forget a plume of black smoke shooting out your rear. drain it asap

will do. I kinda thought it was bad, but maybe better than NO oil. :uhoh: How can I drain this w/o making a mess on the apartment complex parking lot surface, and without putting the car up on jackstands (I hav eno access to any). Or, should I take it to an oil shop and just get an oil change or something? It isn’t due until August though. :frowning:

Thanks!

hm that would be tough. if youre ghetto enough, how about sticking a rag in the oil cap and turning on the engine and letting it splash and soak the rag. do that about ten times and im sure you got half a quart haha

syphon it. get a long plastic tub and a large enough bucket, one end in the engine and the other in your mouth and suck fast until their is oil almost at your mouth then let it run into the bucket. then just keep checkin the dipstick until enough has drained.

LOL these suggestions are hilarious!! Just go to the auto parts store and see if you can fid a pump to pump the oil back out thru the dipstick tube.

dont be a puss, just syphon it

don’t you have a JACK in your truck that came with the car. Use your head… who wants a mouthfull of oil from the syphon. Be smart use the jack grab a bucket or tuperwear and losen the plug release sopme oil… DONE. don’t want to do that go to your local shop and have them do it. or just change the oil and have them do it there. USE YOUR HEAD THIS IS COMMON SENSE!:gay:

No jack (took it out, along w/ the spare, to make room for the amp rack of my stereo – I carry 2 cans of Fix-A-Flat Gold, and a CAA card, in case of emergency).

I’ll take it to my mechanic and have him drain a bit out I guess. Didn’t want to have to do this, but SURE AS HELL don’t want a mouthful of oil… Mmm… tasty… :vomit:

well i’m no car super techie but wouldn’t using the stock car jack be quite dangerous? and be more not using yor head?
cuz if u just use the jack, its quite dangerous that it may slip and u’ll get a chance to get closer to your car then u ever have b4…

aside from that
like said above
just get a pump, and pump a bit out… quite easy
or syphon it, its a lil risky but just keep an eye on how far the oil reache then pull your mouth away lol

Man, I feel so ashamed to be part of this board. First of all, never ever work under a car without proper jack stands, the car will tip over with just a little nudge. Second, it’s not that bad to have a little bit more oil. Autocrossers usually put in half a litre more oil because the oil sloshes around in the pan.

1st never get under the car when its on any jack, stock or not
2nd too much oil is definately bad for your car
3rd just syphon the oil like a man

Syphon it like a man! LOL! I love it!! hahahahaha… I’d say just take it and get an oil change ASAP. That way you know you’re starting from square one again.

SYPHOON!!! a good and economicla way to practice is find a car with an unlocked gas tank and hlep urself to some.
