i’m swapping my engine and i need to take the crankshaft pullys off of my old engine to use on the new one. how do i get them off and what tool do i use? i noticed in the helms that there was a picture of a hex pattern tool. whats the name of it and where can i get it/rent it???
Moroso makes a crank pully tool. I think some people were successful with using a “belt wrench” or something like that to hold the pully while they used an impact wrench to take the bolt off.
well, this involves some extra work (maybe, depends on what all you’re doing).
If you happen to have the tranny removed from the motor then this is an easy way to get the pulley loose (flywheel bolts too). Take one of the 17mm bolts that mounts the tranny to the motor, slip the box end of a 14mm wrench over the bolt and thread the bolt into the motor (these bolts are on the upper part of where the tranny and motor meet, not lower part). Then put the open end of the wrench over one of the little pin that are on the flywheel (clutch must be removed). This will keep the crank from spinning while you loosen the crank pulley bolt and/or flywheel bolts…you may or may not need a cheater bar still.
This probably doesn’t help you since i doubt you’ll be removing the tranny…but i figure i’ll get the info out there. Oh, and this method is courtesy Dan Platt (don’t worry dan, i wasnt gonna take credit…lol)
