So I have a full coilover on my car (function&form) type 2 i was wondering would I still need to run a top hat on it ? Please forgive me if its a stupid question but I have no idea about that really .
Well a full coilover will have a standard tophat already installed. Now if your talking extended tophat then that would depend on how low you plan on going, if you need the extra shock travel you can replace the tophats Function/Form installs on their kits with and extended version from GroundControl or whatever you prefer.
But with those FF Type2’s, the ride should be already nice and firm right due to the set preload… well unless you’re super slammed and need extra shock travel… then yes extended top hats can be used.
Really don’t understand the need for extended top hats since it’s a ful coilover setup and the springs and shocks should be rate matched from the factory… unless you went with custom ones?
I was just wondering about top hats my ride is stiff and low so im good thanks for the help though
I want to bump this and confirm. Through my searching i was unable to find a definite answer. Will the GC extended tophats work with other coilovers setups ala Function Form, Omnipower, d2/ksport. On my omni sports the bottom bracket is maxed and I still needed to drop the spring to get the desired height and it still isnt slammed. I lost 1/2 of my entire shock travel range by doing so. I know they have options for either a 10 or 12 mm shock shaft diameter so I will measure my setup. I dont have any problems in the rear, just the front. I just need to know for sure before I pay that much for them.
i have a set, come up and test fit them lol
I just might have to take you up on that offer. You arent too far either.
Seems omnis have a 20mm shaft so it might not work. Unless I am able to use the bushings that are currently on there with the GC top hats. Omni actually has a coilover set up that looks like it has extended top hats. Does anyone know what chassis this is for? Maybe I can order them direct from omni and if the studs dont line up and can take them to the machine shop and have them drill and press the studs in the correct location for the DA.
those are civic/rsx ones
for o.p. if he is still around,
with function and forms you can slam the shit out of your car(under carriage like an inch from the ground) using the lower mount and still retain full shock travel. No top hats are needed for that coil-over system.

yea, my buddy has functions on his accord wagon and we were able to slam that and it could still go lower. I was actually considering trading my omni’s for type 1’s so I could go lower but extended top hats might be the easier option.
If I were to use those civic/rsx tophats will the studs line up with our cars? It looks pretty long, im wondering if it will even clear the hood if I were to use them. Stupid omnis, why couldnt they use a shorter shock in the front. At max height adjustment it would probably be higher then stock, who wants that?
I know from my searching on the forum that youve tried ebay extended top hats. Do you think it would be possible to use my current bushings from my omnis and transfer it over to those, since thats what seems to fail? I could even swap over studs if the knurl is the same size as well. It would save me some money haha.
i would just buy ground control ones, definetly better quality, im glad i bought them
i dont understand why people buy certain things when they dont even know what they are for.
does anyone on here know how to make there own extended top hats?
willing to pay top dollar for a set

sorry I have been busy but thanks for the info im pretty dumped and its still rides good no problems whatsoever I would recommend these coilovers to anyone looking for a good reliable setup
I ended up getting F&F eg type 1’s which still didnt go low enough in the front. I ended up running ebay extended top hats using the oem f&f bushings, bumpstops, and dustboots.
It ran out of adjustment though. Gonna have to remove collars to get lower or get shorter springs. The omni on the right is maxed from the bottom bracket.
