torque converters....

Hey you guys. I was planning on swapping out my automatic tranny with a 5speed before, but it seems like it’s a lot of hassle. I was planning on doing the swap for two reasons: one–my tranny seems worn, lost it’s kick, and two–automatics are boring. But anyway, I was considering on getting a new torque converter, most probably an aftermarket one…sports. Do you guys think its worth it?

I’m planning on doing the same thing. What companies are you looking at? Level ten is the only one I’ve found so far, but I haven’t looked to hard. I was gonna do 5 speed conversion too, but it’s too hard to find junked g2’s around here, and I decided it’d be kinda cool to modify an auto, and it’ll make it a bit more relaxing when navigating the hellish traffic in my area (damn road work…)

it is my dream to do a 5 - speed swap. some dude say he’ll install it for me for 350 which i think is a great price. I also had someone that was gonna send me all the stuff i needed for like 300-400 bucks. tranny , ecu, clutch whole thing.

I have also checked out level tens’s stuff, they seem to be really good. How much diff will it make with a aftermarket torque converter? I kinda like the auto/manual controller unit hehe. too much money though. let me know if you guys are going to do it and tell me how it goes. =)

Level ten? Can you guys put up a link for “level ten” products? I was looking at a B&M racing torque converter. I really haven’t looked hard or anything. How much do the level ten torque converters run for?
Yeah, it’s a dream for me too to change my auto to a 5speed. I want a 5speed so bad, but decided that my next car will be a 5speed. I’m also scared about any problems my car might have if I did do the 5speed swap. I think the member Shenrie said he had a few problems after he changed his tranny.

How much diff will it make with a aftermarket torque converter?

My friend had a Stanza that he modified once. (Yes, a Stanza). His transmission was pretty burnt out so he got a new torque converter, factory. He said the gears bite better and quicker…more pull.

So, are you guys gonna do it? I might plan too, depending on the cost. I’m gonna ask around to see how much it’ll cost to install.

yah go check for the pricing of the installation, i doubt i can do this kinda stuff myself, unless i have my own garage which i do not have. And all my friends that do have one always whines about it when i work in their garage. bah they suck!

www.levelten.com is level ten’s site. The torque converter for our cars is 498.00 I believe. The other kit you might want to look at getting is the PTS kit, which replaces all the clutches and bands and a bunch of other stuff, which supposedly makes the tranny shift better, and allows it to handle higher hp (that kit is around 300 I believe). I’ve emailed level ten a number of times, and the torque converter and pts kit will definitely work on our cars. The torque converter they have for the g2 has a stall speed of 2800-3000, which they said gets rid of most of the sluggishness below 3000 rpm, which means better acceleration. One thing they did say though is that they measure stall speeds for the torque converter differently than honda does, so even though the helms manual lists a stall speed of 2450-2750, they said that you can’t really compare them, and that their torque converter is optimized for our engines. Over the winter I’m planning on installing the torque converter and PTS kit, we’ll see how it goes. I would’ve started on it sooner, but I’m still trying to figure out why my car won’t start, so I need to save my money temporarily in case I find something major needs replacing. I also may buy the shiftronic eventually too, since it sounds like it might be fun, and I would like a manual, or at least the option to shift gears. When I get around to it this winter, I’ll try to post info on it.

Spikius, I am definitley interested in how the torque converter install goes. Looking forward to hearing about it when you get done.
