So I just picked up a older sit down jet ski, a 1995 Kawasaki 750 SS to be exact. Came with a little single trailer. Not sure of the exact weight of everything but it can’t be much, I’m saying like 1100lbs at most. How would a DA handle towing a load like this? I do have upgraded brakes and suspension (Koni/GC’s), I figure that has to help out some. My engine is a B18B that is mostly stock but has a I/H/E. I wouldnt be towing it far either, like 25 miles each way on a relatively flat free way. There are a few decent size hills along the way though.
So would I be able to do it okay? I only bought the jet ski because it’s like brand new and was dirt cheap, I shouldnt of but it was a total impulse buy and sounded like fun. But I don’t want to have to buy another vehicle to tow it though. So if the DA won’t cut it I will just sell the jet ski.
I remember a guy on here was towing a boat with his DA with stock B18A and he said it handled fine other than the brakes but I think he had stock brakes so you should be more than fine.
I believe the tow rating is about 1,000 pounds. A jetski and basic trailer should be less than that. There are a couple of companies that sell hitches for Intergas but I can’t remember at the moment.
My concern would be boat ramps. Front wheel drive and a lowered car without a lot of torque would be interesting on a steep ramp. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavor.
I was all worried about just getting it there, never really thought about launching it too. Weight on the back end of FWD car with little torque trying to pull it’s max load up a steep incline on wet pavement does not sound like a fun time. Not to mention my tires suck ass when wet.
I guess I’ll have to give it a try and see how it goes. If it doesn’t work I guess I could always give someone a couple beers to pull my ski out real quick and just hook the trailer back up when it’s out. I’m sure I would be able to launch it and pull a empty trailer out no problem, just might need help getting it back out.
I thought there’d be more posts about towing? I just have to wire mine up and planning to tow a couple of small jumpers and blowers on a 4x8 trailer… I have a five lug ITR brakes… should be ok?
I know a guy in Miami that used to tow a 4 person jet ski boat with his DA. Just make sure that your rear bumper beam is not rusted out as that is where the 2 main points of the hitch attach. The other point is the tow hook.
The previous owner of my newest db1 used to occasionally tow a trailer. I’m not sure how big it was but I have the tow hitch removed if you’re interested in it. I won’t be using it.
