Hey guys! I am considering a 91 Integra GS with well over 100k miles on it. It looked & ran fine, but a few times I thought I had moved it out of gear and let out the clutch and it stalled…Like it was still in gear??? The owner says the tranny has just been rebuilt but didn’t have the records of this service. I also missed hitting 5th a few times and it went into third…The shifter seemed kinda sloppy… I also now it needs the Timing belt replaced, should I do the water pump as well at the same time? Should this be done at a Honda/Acura store, or can any good service place handle this job? Thanks much for any response!!!
It sounds like he didn’t properly align the tranny. Whether it be the clutch, shift linkage, I do not know. Unless, of course, you’re a new Manual Driver. As for changing the timing belt - yes - replace the water pump at least. If you can, have the tensioner replaced as well. I recommend finding a local Honda/Acura Specialist rather than taking it to the dealer. You’re gonna get raped with the price there. However, even the Honda/Acura Specialist will scam you too or do a poor job. Do your homework in finding a local mechanic and make sure he/she is competent, friendly, understandable, communicative, does the job right. If he makes you watch what he’s doing to your car, then all the better.

Oz
Thanks for the response & advice! I think its in the shift linkage, I have been researching it and thats what it sounds like to me. As for being a new manual driver…well…I guess have almost 500,000 miles on a manual so not to new…ha ha…I have been checking on prices on service too, its good to shop for a good value but quality is the most important thing of course. Thanks again!
