Tranny won't go into gear??

The problem came back today. Before that, it happened to me and all I did was put it into first gear and let the car stall, then the problem went away and now it came back. My tranny won’t go into gear while the car is on and when it did go to gear it make a noise then somehow the sound stop, sound like a tranny gear grinding type. It go into gear perfect while the car is off. What is causing it?? Fluids? release bearing? clutch? tranny gears? shift linkage?..I going to try to put in new tranny fluids and bleed the tranny this Saturday to see if this help; before, I start to take the tranny apart; if bad then going to replace the tranny and clutch.

BTW I don’t know what brand is the clutch, maybe ebay clutch, but all I know I been told that its a 6 puck clutch.

Your clutch needs to be adjusted. There is a black plastic knob on the cable that you turn. The knob is right above the bracket on the front of the trans. Try to turn the knob one full rotation, see if that makes a difference… if that makes it worse, spin the knob the opposite way and see if that helps.

I’m 90% sure that this is the issue.

Thanks man!

definitely the best place to start

How is the flywheel?

I have no ideas, but my clutch pedal is stiff. If it won’t go into gear at a complete stop, all I do is turn the car off then put it into first gear, start the car and it will go into gear. Don’t know about now and the car is just sitting.

Anymore info. is always welcome.

I know you won’t want to hear this, but from my experience, if you’ve fully adjusted the cable and there is no change, you’ll need to start taking things apart.

When you do this, take a look at the throwout bearing and the bearing on the flywheel. If these are both okay, move onto the clutch, pressure plate and flywheel. MAKE SURE YOU FLYWHEEL IS TO SPEC, When I did my clutch job, the effing machine shop only machined one step of the flywheel, causing a very similar problem to what your experiencing,

happens in all gears?

yup, when I try to put it into first gear, won’t go in first and try the rest and it won’t either. Until I turn off the car and put it in first and turn the car on, then it will go to the rest of the gears.

Sounds like the TOB or the clutch is way to tight. Try loosening the cable so that you have about an inch of free play in the peddle and see what happens.

if the cable were too tight, he’d have problems with the clutch engaging, like slippage.
his problem, for whatever reason, is the clutch isn’t disengaging. if you’ve tried adjusting the cable to your fullest extent, the only other thing you can do is pull the transmission and have a look at what’s going on. could be the fingers are worn, bent or broken. could be the fork is bent, etc. either way, the trans needs to come out

Time to pull the trans, I bet the ears or one of them broke of the throwout bearing or the clutch disc is trashed. Regardless if you keep tryin stuff and driving it youll damage your trans.

now it goes into gears perfect like a normal car. like i say it on and off thingy. well the tranny is already trash. it grind in every gears when shift hard at high speed; even reverse, had to put into 5 gear then to reverse so it won’t grind.

yea I think is the clutch or the throwout bearing. but don’t have the time to take it apart, because it my daily driving car. Thanks guys for the help.

your initial problem is probably what’s causing it to grind in all gears
