ok, my transmssion is shot, it grinds when shifting into all gears but fifth. Ive done an 89-91 b16a engine swap but i am still running my LS tranny. i would like to go to a b16a transmission. can anyone give me price estimates? also i am planning on putting in an aftermarket clutch and pressure plate & swapping my fifth gear. for the transmission, clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, resurfacing flywheel, and labor i was quoted $1600. is that a good price? thanks for your help
You could probably get another engine swap for that price. But here’s a price list:
Transmission-$300-$500-depends on where you look etc.
Clutch-$150-$350-depends what kind you choose, Exedy is $280 shipped I believe.
Flywheel(lighten, balance, resurface)-$100-I think this is a universal price.
LS 5th-??-yours is still good so maybe you could use that if you can find someone to do it.
Labor-??
Also, :search: The answers are already there.

my exedy was $269.50 shipped. from www.clutchcityonline.com www.coximports.com also has them…but they don’t include the alignment tool. Another place has them as well (possibly for a couple bucks cheaper, but i forget the website now–if you search for exedy and look at the recent topics you should be able to find it)
lighten, balance, and resurface for my flywheel was $160. price will depend on your local shop. I had a hard time finding a shop that could lighten flywheels. about $150 for all 3 services is about what i’ve seen the normal price to be.
i’m currently working on the ls 5th gear swap right now. i need to do some more reading on the topic. but hopefuly in a few days i should know all the details
my mechanic said he could do the swap for 100-150

by swap do you mean all the labor?
-pull old tranny
-swap 5th gear
-intall new tranny
-install clutch
if he’s gonna do all that for $100-$150 thats a good deal!! figure labor is usually $65/hr. and i’d expect all that to take more than 2.5hrs
that was the price he said he would add to the total labour for the swap (he would already have the transmission off)
