Just put everything back together after installing an exedy stage one and 8 lb flywheel. The car started up a few times. Then something happened and it made a horrible sound and fluid started pouring out and now my shifter is super spongy. The fluid looked like it was coming from the clutch cover but since there isn’t supposed to be any fluid there it might just be dripping there cuz its the lowest point. Plus most of the time the clutch doesn’t seem to grab at all. I rev up, let the clutch out, and the car just dies. Even when I rev to 5000 rpm it moves a lil then dies. I can’t check it out till next week but any help would be nice.
Why won’t the clutch engage? and does the spongy shifter mean the seal around the shift rod to transmission is leaking? Maybe the car won’t move because the gears aren’t engaging because of the shift seal?
thnx
is this a cable or hydro tranny? check to see where the leak is coming from.
did you replace the throw-out bearing? and…did you make sure the release spring was on correct? if the throw-out bearing is bad it does make a horrible sound when you engage the clutch.
It’s cable. I did replace the throwout bearing and I think the spring is on correctly. Is there any reason for fluid to be coming from the clutch housing area? Does fluid circulate in the walls of the transmission? Any thoughts on the spongy shifter?
Hopefully my dad has time to check it out but, yeah, I can’t tell where the leak is from right now.
Any other possibilities?
Did u replace the seals or reuse them?
I didn’t replace any seals. I just dropped the transmission, replaced the flywheel, bearing, clutch disk, pressure plate, throwout bearing and put the transmission back in. I was thinking maybe I damaged the shifter seal with all the hammering I did on the spring pin. Maybe the leak and the spongy shifter and the lack of grab are all seperate problems.
O and i forgot to mention that when the clutch isn’t depressed it’s fine but when I shift to first and let go of the clutch the rpms get dragged down. If i rev it really high and let the clutch out slowly i can feel the car start to move a little but i have to rev to like 5000 rpm and let the clutch out to do this. Sometimes the clutch engages it works fine and reverse gear seems to work fine most often. I was thinking the leak might be from the passenger axle? I noticed that the driver side axle sticks out of the lug maybe 2 mm more than the passenger side axle. Will fluid leak out of the axle that much if its not in completely?
I’ma get the chance to take a look at what’s goin on this weekend guys. Any last things i should look for? I really wanna try out my flywheel but I gotta get the car running first lol.
as far as the axles leaking from the inner part. Its the transmission seals if u never changed it or even probably accidently pry on it to remove axles?
Well if its leaking like oil u should check those seals were what i talked about first time.
