Transmission grinds ..in 2nd & 3rd

ocassionally wen driving wen downshifting from 4th to third i experience grind in the tranny it seems to grind … not all the time but ocassionally if im at high rpms… sometime it happens when downing from third to second otherwise the tranny runs smoth through all gears… idk what might be the issue … any suggestions…

worn syncros. would require an overhaul
you can try using some redline shockproof gear oil or the like. but that will only mask the problem

It could also be a bad clutch… on my trans I would experience a grind when high-rpm shifting from 2nd to third, and third to fourth. When I took the trans out the clutch had virtually turned to dust and the throwout bearing-tabs had been broken off… needless to say it was in dire need of replacement.

When (if ever) was the last time you changed the clutch?

true. you could try adjusting the cable as well. see if that helps

Check your fluid level and maybe even a change. Dont use the new honda mtf that stuff is garbage compared to what is used to be use either torco or just plain jain 10-30
The problem with the Redline MTL and MT-90 is they like to eat away at the plastic bearing cages in the tranny bearings.
Also check your engine mounts

the transmission requires a 5-30 oil but WITHOUT detergents like regular oil. The oil used in the engine foams in the transmission and will destroy it after long periods of use. What transmission are you using? A1 or a S1…(aka 90-91 transmissions)? I went thru 3 different 90-91 transmissions before realizing they are all troublesome. In 92-93 they switched to the YS1 with a larger input shaft… The parts manager at Acura told me they had tons of trouble with the earlier gearbox. Problem is it uses a different clutch disk.

jus recently my clutch cable broke and i had to replace it… the grinds have gon away … thanx g2ic
