transmission noise

ive had this car for a year now…

and it has some rattling noise comming from the tranny.

when i step on the clutch pedal, it goes away.
atfirst i thoguht it was the bearing, but i changed it when i changed my clutch last month.

it still has that rattle noise.

any idea what it could be?

tranny drives fine, no grinds and not hard to get in gear.

its just really noisy when im off the clutch pedal

bad tranny mount maybe?

A little more specific

Is it really REALLY noisy, or just noticable?

When I’m in neutral at idle, I can hear a slight rattle from the tranny, in both my Integras, that goes away after a second when I depress the clutch. When I say slight, I mean, if I have the fan on, it drowns it out.

I change my tranny fluid every year, don’t mash gears, yadda yadda yadda… I think what you’re hearing is normal. I could be wrong though.

sometimes is soft…

but it gets loud.

the thing is that…
its not always making noise…

sometimes itll start being noisy…and sometimes it goes away

:[ anyone know whats going on?

Sorry for waking this thread from the dead! I’m experiencing a similar problem:

I understand the transmission will have a slight noise when spinning which goes away when the clutch is depressed (slowing to silence within 2-3 seconds).

My transmission has started making far louder than normal “b-r-r-r-r-r”-like noise when the clutch is up. You can hear it distinctly when driving at lower speeds and at higher speeds it only fades behind the road and exhaust noise. If you stick your head under the hood, it sounds like death! Okay, maybe not like death, but it’s very distinct, noticable, and still makes me nervous. It follows the RPM of the engine, not the speed of the car.

I’ve noticed that it will go away for a moment if I put a load on the transmission in a certain way. It’s hard to explain, but this is my best: With the car sitting in neutral at a stop, I can hear this noise. I depress the clutch and wait a moment for the noise to go away, then shift through all the gears (still stationary). I then shift into first and raise the clutch with the handbrake up until I feel a bit of a pull then depress the clutch again. I shift back to neutral and slowely raise the clutch and the noise is not there. If I rev the engine slightly above idle, it only returns after about 2000-2500 RPM and quite suddenly.

Something similar also happens when driving. If I follow the same procedure above, except rather than revving the engine while standing still, I shift back to first and pull away, the noise is not there until I depress the clutch to shift to second gear.

Lastly, if I’m rolling (say 50km/h or 35mph) I can hear this noise. If I depress the clutch the noise remains. If, while the clutch is still depressed, I shift to neutral, the noise goes away. If I shift back into gear (3rd or 4th) while leaving the clutch depressed, the noise returns and at a rate corresponding to whichever gear I selected.

My car is a '92 GSR, so that’d be the GSR’s YS1 transmission and it just passed 400 000 km this past weekend. If it wasn’t for the noise, the transmission behaves like butter - I can shift at the rev-limiter with no grinds in any gear. I change the fluid with MTF very often, in fact, I changed it early (by my routine), two weeks ago hoping to remedy this issue, but to no avail.

I’ll try to take a video and post if it helps but I’m not sure if the sound will come through very well. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

More then likely its the main input shaft bearing. 60$ part but got split the case. Mine did the same and replaced that and went away.
