While driveing at the last autocross this weekend my car would pop out of 2nd almost 3 times a run (70sec ish). any time i went to get on the gas real hard it would pop out and i had to let the car drop rpms to get it back in with out heavy grinding. this is really affecting my times and making autocrossing almost no fun. its never done this on the street. anybody know what is causing this?
yeah… its ur transmission synchros on the tranny bro… its what allows you to shift into gears. each gear has its own synchros. it wounds like you’re second gear synchros is about to go out!.. the exact same thing hapened to me… it started off slowly … when i bought the car it would sometime grind when i would shift into third gear… then it started happening all the time… and then it started pooping out of gear at high revs… but my dumbass kept slaming the gears when i would shift and one day the tranny just blew up while i was driving… ok i wasnt just driving… i was racing lol. anyway… you have 3 CHOICES… rebuilt you’re tranny completly… take ur tranny to a transmission shope shop and have them only replace the messed up synchros…(ou might as well rebuilt the whole thing… or 3, just buy another ys1. but i see that you have a 93 GS-R … so you have the CLOSE RATIO tranny… and it will be VERY HARD finding another one… most of the time people lie and sell LS YS1’s and say that their GS-R YS1. so its hard finding an honest person that is selling a GENUINE GS-R YS1. i say u just rebuild it!.. it cost about 800-1100 for a profesional rebuilt… but its worth the money! atleast you will know you have a tranny working in perfect condition.:bowthank:

shoot. Just like 2 weeks ago my tranny decides to start locking me out of gears. I’m not entirely sure its the syncros being the problem though. I recently screwed around with the clutch freeplay adjustment, and its been quirky ever since.
in the past 2 wees i’ve:
- grinded once going into 5th
- Locked out of 4th gear a few times
- Locked out of 2nd gear a few times.
- grinded into 2nd gear once.
gonna give it some new mtf probably and double check the clutch adjustment.
4-5mm freeplay needed at the clutch arm. lesson learned: Dont use the clutch adjustment to move the engagement point. Thats not the purpose of it. That said, my clutch needs replacing soon. Squeals like a pig and the pedal is heavier than my dad’s BMW. :wtf: It just doesnt feel right anymore.
mine was popping out of gear every one day then took it home an checked the fruid and it was empty

that really sucks you didnt have any fluid in the tranny.
i just changed mine last week from syncomesh to honda mtf and it acutally made the grinding worse.
