transmission prob please help!

i ahve an auto tranny and lately i noticed when i have the car in reverse not moving(hand brake or foot brake on) the car makes a weird vibrating/rattiling noise. its sof thten gets louder as i am idle in reverse longer… what could be the problem? the rattling seems to be coming from under my car/tranny area… no sound comes from drive. it also makes noise when i am on Park and foot on the brake… :frowning:

That might just be the sound of your reverse gear engaged…
It only happens in reverse with the clutch in, right??

i have a auto tranny so my car has no clutch,. but anywasy i found out waht the prob was… sounds bad but there was a small bolt that fell into the transmission mount and i forgot about it and realized that might be causing the tranny to mess up a bit. so i took some time and got thesucker out

That seemed to be an easy fix…
Oh, and automatics do have clutches…

I was talking about manual transmission cars when I said that. Automatics are a whole different world. By far the most complicated aspect of a car, thats at least what I think.

do you know what else could be ther problem? also i have noticed it seems like its coming from under the car where the catalytic converter is, as if that is the thing rattling…?

Do automatics have a similar kind of shift linkage?

If so, the shift linkage could be loose, or making contact with something else under the car (heat shield?).

My sister had the same sort of problem with her 90’ Accord (Automatic). She found out that her ECU was bad; one whole side of it was fried. That might be the problem with your car or maybe not. Maybe it’s your synchros in your tranny or a sensor. Hope this helps out a little.

If it sounds like it is coming from your catalytic converter you should check to see if the heat shield is loose and rattling around.
