Hi guys, I was wondering what I have in my car as far as acceleration/reliability, Etc. Currently I have a A1 transmission, but I have been doing research and this is the best reference I can find here: http://lonewolf-online.net/cars/honda/transmission_guide/
My question is how do you read this chart?? If I were to quickly look at it I would think the A1 transmission is one of the lower geared transmissions due to the lower numbers in each gear compared to others. I could be absolutely wrong and it may be the other way around, but just looking for input. I see its classified in the same category as the USDM YS1 from the b16 that everyone says are low geared. Do I in fact have the low geared transmission?? By the way mine is a cable transmission from a 91 Integra.
:bawl: …and I cannot find 1 thing online about the A1 transmission. I see all types of stuff of the 3 different versions of the YS1, but absolutely nothing on the A1. :bawl:
So, if I recollect correctly, over the last couple months there has been plenty of discussion about trans and gearing. I suppose it has to do with if you want to live in the red alert 4-8K rpm range or just rip it from 3-5K. Different needs for each of these and having to live with the other by default. By the way, I sent you a coupon for a box of snot rags.
Really though, I see all types of info on the YS1 transmissions, but absolutely nothing on an A1 transmission and I have even googled it!! For now I will assume its long geared seeing as the 1 article I found on it classifies it in the same category as the YS1. I will assume long geared & NON-JDM, but I do have a lightened flywheel though so that should help me pull away from certain vehicles I guess. At a light today I was next to an RSX, and when it turned green we were traveling the same exact speed, but I noticed I was able to shift into second way earlier then she did. Mind you we were not racing! I am still babying my 2 day old setup to help break it in and “she” did pass me…and had the nerve to rev her engine driving by…LOL
if you are reffering to the b18a1 motor? the code for the transmission that comes with that motor orignally is the long geared ys1 it sucks I have a xsi swap which came with the extremely short geared ys1 awesome! I will tell you that you will see a noticable difference if you switch to that trans at least a 1/2 second in 1/4 mile
yeah, I figured that. As everyone says with the gas prices the way they are now i’m ok with the long geared tranny. Maybe in a year or so i’ll switch, or if I stumble upon a deal I can hook myself up.
I did a little reasearch on here and a few people have said that the A1 transmission is slow on the bottom end, but overall produces faster times in the quarter mile. I would also think if you run out of gearing on the top end you would have to even out with a short geared tranny where as the the long geared tranny would still be building torque. Maybe those people were referring to turbo applications though. :werd:
